Re: Road Rhino bumpers
Danny- for craps and giggles I've been looking up Road Rhino and I've seen some good stuff. Is Elijah the owner of Road Rhino? Everybody seems pretty impressed with him on the reviews I've seen.

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
Yeah, he is the owner. His family actually owns a huge steel yard and he runs the bumper division. He is a super nice guy, just a bit overwhelmed with all of the bumper orders he and I send out.
I honestly have yet to get ONE bad comment on these. The price, quality, and therefore the value, is just phenomenal. You get them cheaper through me plus the customer service, which isn't too bad either.

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
Do you have any pics of the rear bumper looking down the side of the truck from the front? I love the front bumper but the rear looks way to wide.

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
I will get a pic of the rear bumper. It's wider than stock but it gives good protection around the brake lights and on that rear rocker. If you have fender flares, it looks "right" but on trucks without, the rear bumper does appear to stick out. It matches the front though, which also is wider than the fenders. That's so the bumper makes contact before the body does.
Mike, that explains it! Fab Fours are great, but so is the price. You can get a front and rear Road Rhino shipped to you for the price of a front Fab Fours. Lol.

No, sorry. It's been totally wild around here the last few weeks. I have another guy coming over to help this week so I will get him on the pics for me. I can't get the phone away from my ear long enough to do anything right now - but I'm not complaining!

Danny- I just had a thought that I wanted to run by you. Can these bumpers hold the weight of the truck say you need to use them as a last resort with a hi-lift jack?

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
They absolutely can. The bumper itself is not the issue, it would be the mounts. They are only as strong as the bolts holding them to the frame. I upgraded my mounting bolts to Grade 8 and lifted my truck with my 60" hi lift. I would say "with ease" but it was actually quite the workout. Lol.
Had the bumper pics scheduled yesterday and we ran out of time. I worked from 8 AM to 2 AM and never even touched them. Rescheduled for Tuesday after some installs are done. I have three of the bumpers on the shop floor. One of my welders is going to tack them up on his truck and we will snap pics then.

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
Thanks. They are on the camera; let me load them and I will post a couple. They are literally the exact same thing, just a smooth plate. These pics are from a WIY kit we tacked up for an instruction manual so it's not a finished bumper. But you can see the very minor, yet structurally beneficial change.

Yeah it's much cleaner, but more importantly, much stronger where it counts.
I have some pics on a 3rd gen too, I just need to upload them. I need more hours in the day!

I'd also like to see these when they are powder coated- I think it will be a much better look than raw metal.

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
Danny- I posted this over on Dodge Talk ( http://www.dodgetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=364554 ) but I thought I'd ask you directly. Do you recomend leaving the winch in the stock location or moving it to the bumper when the upgrade time comes?

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
Personally I feel like the fewer obstacles you have in the way, the better. The stock mount is very solid but it's also lower to the ground and would require routing the cable through the bumper. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but winch cables are really designed for a straight-line pull, not an angle like that. If the roller fairlead on either end ever picked up some trash or got nicked, you could see the cable start fraying quickly. And if you are running synthetic rope, I would definitely mount the winch in the bumper.
Another thing to consider is that the bumper mount is higher so the winch is more protected from impacts and the elements (water, snow, mud) and it's easier to use and work on in the bumper location. Plus you really need something in that hole or it is wasted space. An air tank is another suggestion, but that wouldn't work if the cable was running through there from the stock mount. So you kill that useable space by routing from the stock mount.
The biggest advantage to having the winch mounted lower is the ability to pull the truck "up" while pulling forward, but the bumper mount will change the height of the winch (and effectively just routing through the bumper will too) so you would need to hook up to a taller object than that to get the "up" pull. This is only a consideration for people who really use their winches frequently. The light usage crowd probably won't notice any difference.
Hope that helps!
I just dropped the prices on the bumpers on our site.

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
Thanks for the info Danny. Using the stock location for an on board air setup in the future might be a good plan (not sure if it would be a big enough spot but its a thought).

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
Yeah I meant using the winch area in the Road Rhino to do that, but then having the cable routed through would make that difficult to do. If you move the winch, I would leave the stock location empty for a cleaner look and more room to work on stuff if needed.

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
Can you simply move the winch to the bumper or does this requires more modifications? I though I read somewhere that you have to reverse wind the winch, which I would think would be bad since you'd always be winching against the drum brake...

Re: Road Rhino bumpers
You should just be able to bolt the winch right into the bumper the same orientation it is now. Correct me if I am wrong, but the mounting bolts for the winch in the stock position enter from the front of the truck and fasten horizontally into the winch, right? That's how the bumper mount is too. The only thing you may need to do is re-route or possibly lengthen the power and ground cables.
Let me know if the winch mounts differently than I described. I looked at some pictures of the mounts on Google.
