Best AGM Battery

Post by ramv » Fri Jan 19, 2024 9:26 pm

To follow up my jump pack thread (no surprise but I did do all the testing to narrow down the problem to the 3 year old battery that Napa won’t warranty) what now? Preference is AGM and I believe this is an H7. I considered the Anti-gravity but have concerns for sub zero starts hence leaning towards AGM. Obviously not another Napa considering the stock H7 lasted 5 years.

If it makes you feel better, I’ve had a similar result with Napa batts on a tractor. Got just over a year and it’s toasted.

Have seen a cool setup where two odyssey pc1400s were put in the factory location for starting and house

Thats clever, I'll take a look at that. It does make me feel better about not buying another Napa. I had a Diehard Platinum in my Chevy and it had no problems starting the 8.1L at -40 and was going strong when I traded the truck in. Probably was 7-8 years old or older at that point.

Anyone using Optima yellow tops? I wasn't super happy with red tops in my second gen, but in fairness they handled several single battery/stock alternator dual winch recoveries and literally hundreds of single winch recoveries. Amazon their reviews are generally better than some of the others and they do have a specific H7 fit. Otherwise, it seems like what I did on my second gen was the best (just go and get the cheapest AGM and if you get three years out of it be happy.)

I have a yellow top in my cargo trailer that's 10 years old and still holds a charge for running all the lights. One of my neighbors uses solar battery tenders on all his batteries and swears by them for getting longer battery life. I worked on his 1962 Chevy C-10 a couple months ago and that battery is 9 years old (traditional lead acid). Still cranked strong and fired right up. He only drives that truck once a month to haul his trash to the dump.

From reading different forums. The new Optima is not like the older Optima's. They lost something when they got bought. Odyssey's are still highly rated. Had one in my PW when I traded it in. Have one now in my Nismo. When the battery in my Gladiator. It's an Odyssey going in.
