Painting Sliders - paint brand recommendations?

Post by bamnq6 » Fri Oct 02, 2020 4:33 pm

Hello all-

I just ordered a set of White Knuckle Sliders with top plates for my 2020. I plan to use this truck so I chose to paint vs. powder coat. I want to touch up paint the gets scuffed off...

Any recommendations on paint brand and process? I've been a rattle can connoisseur in the past, but I've also painted an entire school bus with rustoleum and a roller...

I do live in Los Angeles, so some paint lines are restricted on availability. I might hit Tractor supply this weekend and check on options for catalyzed tractor paint.

Any tips and tricks would be appreciated :secret:

I just use rustolium spray to touch them up as needed.

Since you are stuck in LA, your best choice for rattle can paint will be Krylon. Way better than Rust-O-Leum and dries a lot faster so easier to do the quick touchups. If you can find the color you want (satin black) in a lacquer rattle can, that is even better because nitrocellulose lacquer will chemically bond to itself with minimal prep for touchups. If you prefer to do a proper job with spray equipment, "import" some satin black enamel from Yuma. I know a guy who gets his in quarts and gallons from Sherwin Williams on the other side of the river. Also, San Diego County has different regulations than LA/Orange/Riverside counties, so you can find things there that are not available in LA. Lastly, there is still a 4,000 ft altitude exemption in So Cal, so you can often buy stuff in places like Big Bear that are not available down the hill.

I used rustoleum farm and implement paint in low gloss black. I cut it 3 parts paint to one part paint thinner and added a harder. Shot it with a cheap harbor freight paint gun.

Any brand name rust paint works awesome. I sanded mine and painted two coats of rust paint. It’ll last forever. Get the good rust proof paint
