Flowmaster 50HD

Post by astrayer1990 » Fri Jan 24, 2020 11:51 am

Hey guys,

Is anyone running the Flowmaster 50HD single in, single out, on the 6.4 Hemi with no resonator?

If so, how is the cab noise? any drone?

My main concern is drone while towing, i don't want to be annoyed.

i would consider keeping the resonator on but would prefer to remove it.

I love flowmasters on hemis, but i am looking for some input.

Avoid it. Have one. Drones between 1500-2000 rpm like there is no tomorrow. Replacing it when the snow melts.

How do u have it run? Is it just dumped under the truck or run out the back?

Replaced the muffler, and still have the resonator.
Even with the resonator it is a droning son of a bitch.

My set up is part # 817517 dual rear exhaust. Does drone @ RPM’ noted above, and when you put your foot in it. Like mine. Would say it is medium aggressive. Here is a current link. Most systems have a chart & sound bite for their systems. Good luck

The factory engineers undoubtedly spent a lot of time matching up the muffler and resonator to minimize exhaust noise over the rpm range.

Not sure about that or not. Our PW is a 2005, Bought the system from, & installed by, a reputable local muffler shop years ago; The system works great for our uses. Does drone as noted & on long steep uphill grades. We tow a bunch with a 26’ travel trailer and wife is not bothered. Note not a 6.4 and not a single in single out, but that’s our experience for what it’s worth !

Well what mufflers do you guys recommend? I want a mild aggressive sound with minimal drone. I had the 50 series muffler on my 1500 and it was great with like no drone

I have a Banks Monster cat-back on my '05 with a MagnaFlow Y-pipe and I like it. Banks has been on the truck since early '06 and has a lifetime warranty. It's pretty loud when you get on it but does not drone at cruising speeds, even well above posted limits (or so I have heard).

I have a Magnaflow 18" dumped at the end of the muffler. It's not real loud until you go WOT. Not much of a drone cruising.

Spintech Pro Street 6000 is a solid choice if you want a chambered sound that actually flows worth a damn. Their 3000 series is a bit milder than that. If you run it full length the 6000 is fine, but due to some repairs I had to make, I have since chopped my duals to dump under the back of the cab/bed in front of the axle. Now it drones like crazy.

If you want a bolt in solution that has a single side exit like stock, the Magnaflow is what I plan on going to when I get long tube headers.

I put a Magnaflow on from Mufflex and really like it. Dumped exhaust just after rear axle and pointed down with a small’ish bell tip. Sounds great on all 8, not as nice in eco mode. Loud is a relative term....I will say that it occasionally sets off other people’s car alarms driving through a parking lot but it’s not as bad as a Harley.
