3rd Gen PW question

Post by zooroadbaja » Tue Jul 30, 2019 10:15 pm

Ive been looking for a 3rd gen PW and doing some research on the side, some of the things ive read were after market winches are better, locker sway bar switch goes out so replacing sway bar and rewiring lockers. With all that being said would i be better off buying a regular 2500 and adding a bumper, winch, rear locker, and carli lift? Hope that makes sense.

regular 2500s most likely will not have front locker
factory winch is perfectly fine, but the factory thermal protection and power delivery may not be ideal-rewire it
so many people hardwire their lockers anyway, but the swaybar is another factor..most go manual disco which is easy and cheap. and reliable.

Gearing is another concern for you, along with the actual transfer case. Did you expect to go with the same gen either way?
you came here for a reason... stick to it, or these factors are not critical for you anyway.

a fully functioning PW will be 10x easier then turning any ordinary ram into one. Plus, you get a manual range selector lever.

The majority of issues you hear about the Power Wagon’s electronics have to do with the safety crap that gets put on the truck because it is a production vehicle.

I agree with PWJouster about getting the PW as the base will make it easier. The truck is built well and has all of the parts you would want on it with a little electrical work and some suspension upgrades.

Hard to find a reasonably priced power wagon. The ones I’ve seen are 16-20+ and a comparable non pew is 12-14. Leaves me 5k to put into it.

If you get a non PW. Your 5,000 will be gone just in gears, lockers and labor. Just get a PW and be ahead in the game. Find one with working lockers and a winch. A lot of owners will sell the winch by it's self just before getting rid of the PW.

Get a set of Carli or Thuren front 3" springs, front control arms, Thuren rear spring shackles, and good set of shocks, 35" tires. You will be amazed at where you can go.

Hello zooroadbaja, where are you located? I've been thinking about selling my PW it has everything you're looking for and is in excellent condition inside, outside and mechanically.

I'm torn, I love my PW, but I'm considering ordering 2020 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited and I don't need both.

I know that feeling. It's been a while since I bought a new vehicle. The Jeep truck has my interest. But not at those prices. Would want the diesel if it come out.

My buddy got the hots for a Rubi UL, sold me his Tundra TRD Crewmax, and after three years decided he really preferred a truck. Dumped the Rubi and went back to a Tundra TuRD Pro. He wanted a PW based on trips in my '05, but new ones would not fit in his office garage. It's hard to beat a 3G PW.
