Adding a front camera to a 2019?

If it's about Power Wagons, all generations, this is where it'll go. This is the original PWR Forum Power Wagon Technical Discussion Section. And this includes everything that doesn’t fit in any one of the other categories related to the truck goes here!

Adding a front camera to a 2019?

Post by waldo » Fri Jul 26, 2019 8:00 am

The truck has the backup and cargo camera, so how difficult is it to add a front cam?

I was going to order one that way, but was unable due to bad timing.

It may be something you want to check with the dealer on (normally not a proponent) however from what I have heard if you have the other two cameras it isn’t as easy as plug and play. It needs to be programmed in.

I bet the wiring is already there.

Tried one dealer today. They were less than helpful. I'm probably going to have to try and figure out what parts I need to order on my own, then go back with #s.

I have found the dealerships know nothing about the features of the 2019 HDs. I have the front camera on mine. Let me see what I can find in terms of a part number.

A handful of businesses make the kits that interface with the OEM radio. Most are pricey, otherwise you'll have to power it and run it to its own monitor. I thought I read somewhere the '19s had a front camera or was an option (and you did say that). Infotainment.com and Camerasource.com come to mind. I've read some interfaces/functionality are dependent on existing cameras and whether you have the steering wheel volume controls. The latter above has a kit that adds the front and 2 side cameras, but it's pushing close to a grand. Could be compatibility issues with 2019s too.

Standard on the 19 PW. Maybe did not get the right package or unconnect?
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

That's what mine has. :thppt:

It's probably standard in the top trim, otherwise it comes with some group or stand alone add on. It's got the 8.4 uconnect and a bed camera.

I bought it off a lot because they had closed 19 orders and 20 wasn't open yet.

No, I guess it would be the classic/standard PW trim or some such. It's got some add on package the dealer ordered but nowhere near the top trim.

If it is the classic it is the tradesman most likely and is actually a 2018 version of the truck.

Let me ask this to seal the answer. Do your front headlights look like these?

If they aren't LEDs then it is the tradesman edition for 2019 and wouldn't have the front camera standard. Likely you will need to buy one of the 2018 aftermarket systems to enable.

It's not a Tradesman or an 18. I've got the sticker in front of me. And it has LED lights.

Seems the 360 cam view is buried in the towing technology group (which this doesn't have).

Cool. Nice color. I have a 3G in Black too.

Ok you should be able to order the front camera and have the dealership enable it then but you made need the 360 module.

Biggest issue is that most every part for the 2019 HDs if they weren't a previous 2018 part are impossible to find because they are all being used in production.

Been waiting on a new windshield for 2 months now and delivery keeps getting pushed back.

Talked to one of the aftermarket companies that works through enabling dealer features and they indicated that the front camera is tricky.

My guess is it is similar to the issues with pulling codes from the 3G smart bar.

Will try to pull the part number for the camera.

Since they don't have the wiring schematics available yet I can't really say what else is involved with it.

This is why I normally order my trucks and just get what I want. Looks like a real pain in the ass to add it.

At first glance, the only wiring I see there is for the active shutters. (Although I didn't remove any of the front trim for a closer look.)
