06 PW Winch

Post by BobL » Mon Jul 01, 2019 12:11 pm

Greetings all. New to this forum. I recently purchased an 06 Power Wagon. First Dodge I've owned in many years. I bought it to use as a good puller to tow our RV trailer. I was tired of trying to make my 15 Sierra 1500 do something it's just not going to do comfortably. So the PW is an additional truck.
When i bought it, it was a great deal on an extremely well maintained truck. But I did not realize the difference of the PW to a standard 2500 until I after the fact.
Since this truck will never see any off road time now, I'm contemplating removing items such as the winch. I'm told they are quite valuable.
Can anyone elaborate? It works well, just for fun, I used it to pull some shrubs out of the ground.

If it will never see off-road time, you might get better value out of it and end up with a truck better suited to your needs by selling the PW in tact and buying a regular 2500.

Sell the PW, and get another truck. You sell the winch by it's self. I WILL hunt you down and shoot you! :lockedandloaded:

My guess is you'll take a bigger hit in value to the truck than what you'll get for it unless you trade it. Not a good idea IMHO.

IMO probably be better off to sell the PW intact & get regular 2500 3/4 on.

Used winch, not worth the labor to remove. Given the labor to extract. But also given a Power Wagon has less towing capacity....you have the wrong vehicle.
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

Trade it for a regular 2500 like the others said. The wagons have derated towing and payload capacity due to the suspension that they come with.

The older Gen PW's aren't the best for towing... :secret:

Alright gents, point taken regarding the winch.
As to how it tows my trailer? Night and day as compared to my 2015 Sierra 1500.
I replaced the hitch due to excessive corrosion, new air bags, new 10 ply stock size skins, Diablo tune, cat back exhaust, cold air intake(came with). With the 456 gears, it tugs my 7500# trailer plus gear with ease. With the nice leather interior and the exceptional care the first owner gave it? I'm gonna stick with this one.

Yea, if the truck is suiting your fancy then I say go right ahead and keep it then. But, I wouldn't pull off any of the off road parts, even if it is something you most likely wont use. Hell, there might be a time down the road you just might be super happy you kept that winch on there!

Have fun in the power wagon world!

Are those tires 285’s, or are they undersized?

Yes sir, stock size 285 70 17. Had nice 315’s on it when I got it, even after a good alignment and DOR steering brace, it drove like crap. Bought the stock size tires and problem solved.

Sure pulls my trailer nice as compared to my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. Supposedly my trailer is within all towing specs on my GMC. Pffft. PW handles it hands down better. Maybe in a few years I’ll sell them both and buy a newer PW with the Cummins and be done.

There is suspicion that they have a newer diesel that will fit available in a year or two. We’ll see.
