Welcome to the world of the Power Wagon they are built by Chrysler but no one knows they exist.

The VIN in later years has a complete copy of what is in the vehicle. Doesn't seem like they started that until 2013.

Best thing to do is to find your original window sticker or email FCA support and they may be able to locate the info.

I did that on my 2012 Challenger SRT8.

You guys do know this is a thing right?

http://powerwagonregistry.org/vin_decode.php

Also, the 3rd gens they were supposed to be doing some sort of sequential special vin crap.
http://powerwagonregistry.org/index.php

I'm not sure if they do that anymore. I doubt they do, but probably did at first when they thought the PW would be a limited production and not go on for another decade.

I have a '16 Tradesman PW and the VIN does not identify it as a PW. Probably need to find the build sheet if it's available.

The Tradesman was not actually a Power Wagon model until this year from what I understand.

It is a Ram Classic with the PW level 1 package.

It won't identify by VIN as a Power Wagon.

I think nowadays, the tradesman ones are technically just a tradesman truck but have the power wagon “package” added on.

Try and find the build sheet. And call around different service departments until you find one that knows what a power wagon is. A combination RAM/Jeep dealership that sells Rubicons might have a service department that has experience with lockers.

I wouldn't trust any of them to do anything as far as pulling and replacing the carrier if you need the coil changed (if that's what it needs). I'd get it done at a ring and pinion shop.

A note about rear locker not engaging: There is a trouble code set when this happens. The problem is that you may need the dealer to pull that code. Now your are out $75-100 to tell you that. On my last failure I was able to buy the locker assembly for around $350(?) on the internet. Another member here had his replaced at a shop that works on differentials, etc. Since it was nearby I had mine done there also. Maybe a 4 hour job /about $325(?).

If you are getting one replaced best to find a shop that has done it before. As you can tell the dealer often hasn't a clue what it even is.

This was all written up on this forum a few years ago if you want to search.

The 05's and 06's are sequential numbered. Back in early 09. We thought that the 09 was going to be the last year for the PW because of low sales.

The 05-09 PW is a Dodge Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi with one of the following packages SLT 26P or Laramie 22L. It was marketed as a distinct model but technically wasn't so when you run the VIN it will show as a 2500 SLT or Laramie. See my window sticker below.

Similar to my '16 Tradesman. Although the window sticker title says, Ram 2500 Power Wagon Tradesman Crew Cab 4x4, directly under the base price it says Ram 2500 ST Crew Cab 4x4, then following the standard equipment lists, it has optional equipment followed by the Power Wagon Tradesman Package 22B.

Doesn't help the OP, but I suspect they all are very similar, except for the Power Wagon SLT which is identified by VIN, P5E, the 5-7th characters I think, at least for '16 model year.
