6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
Had some terrible issues this past weekend.
Filled up with 93 at a Sunoco station i have never been to. It looks like shit.
Got to about 3/4 tank and the truck started having idle issues at low speed.
i put the truck in Park from Drive and it studdered and bogged out.
it would not start easily, and once it turned over, i got some codes. P0339 P0340 P0335
It was idling widly and stalling out a couple times, until i let it sit for a minute.
Started up better after a few minutes, but still driving like crap. Dumped some Lucas fuel treatment and octane booster in, and filled the remainder with good fuel.
I then removed the Edge Pulsar to confirm this was not the issue...it may have been.
started the truck up, everything was fine for a few minutes until i got a mile or so down the street, and tried to give it more gas. It threw the same codes. It wont stall now, but it feels like i have some throttle issues, like surging.
waiting until i deplete this tank before i take any serious action.
Am i in trouble, should i get it to the shop, or should i just replace the sensor?
do these really go bad in 20k miles?
And would these codes ever be caused by shit gas?

ive had the one code since removing the Edge.
driving ok and no more codes 24 hours later. crap50%-50%good blend with additives until empty. I hope no more codes.

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
I'm almost betting its shit fuel/water in the fuel
So it'll probably run crappy till it's all gone I'd wait till that tanks empty refuel at a station u know and go from there

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
taking a precautionary measure and dropping it off at Dodge...or is that not wise? lol
while the Pulsar is out, and before i have the new PCM and tune on, i want to get in one last time to complain about my trans and drivability.
i may ask for a transmission cleanse while im at it.

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
I would figure you would get a P0300 if it was stuttering too.
You might do some diagnosis if your confident enough, clear codes with the juice, and with the battery being well charged, restart the vehicle a number of times and see what codes pop up. If you do get the others with P0300 I'd go with bad fuel/plugs/injector.
If you get just the others I'd wager you have electrical and sensor issues. You might check the sensors and trace the wiring back for damage. The Crankshaft position sensor I think is located passenger side accessible from the wheel well. Being lower perhaps its damaged or wires nicked. Check voltages and continuity. I never looked for the camshaft position sensor, guess is front of the engine haha, near where the camshaft aught to be. Passenger side, by the coolant port from the radiator?
But that is a serious one though, sucks.

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
Already said, but could be bad gas. If it is, it'll be a major PITA, but drain tank and flush out the lines. Doubt warranty would cover damage or repairs as a result of running contaminated gas. But who knows, stranger things happen.
Maybe siphon out a gallon or so and see if any water is in it. I'd run the hose down far enough it goes to bottom of tank. Watered-down gas will separate with water on bottom.
And it could be mechanical, electrical, or sabotage, WTF knows.

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
well today its running....
ok
no more codes, and going to drop it off this week.
the 50-50 blend with additives is going through ok. trying to blow through it quickly.

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
There were some reports around here a few months ago of DIESEL mistakenly put in the gas tanks.
I’d be really pissed off.

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
That cost Western Refining a bunch of money about 5 years ago here. Most people didn’t make it a mile. IIRC it turned out to be problem with the inert gas that was supposed to separate gas from diesel in the pipeline, so it mixed.Rodeoflyer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 9:38 pmThere were some reports around here a few months ago of DIESEL mistakenly put in the gas tanks.

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
it was gas for sure, and everyone in the area has not heard of any issues from the specific station...its 1 mile away from the dealer.
could have been water in the storage tank, or it could be the truck.
its at the dealer now. maybe they will replace some sensors for fun.

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
This is just my 2 cents but those are cam position and crank position codes. They have nothing to do with fuel if it was bad. It would ne ur luck it just happened after u fueled up but all those codes are pcm signal codes those codes are serious codes. 1 reads crankshaft position the other camshaft position. If either of them have a issue then truck will run like dog ass.
If the ecu/pcm looses any signal from any of those it will run like ass or even stall.... has nothing to do with fuel....
1 code CAN cause the other codes.and v/versa
I would start by checking ground cables and ur battery connections on the truck. U have several ground for ur harness throughout the truck body and frame.
Its just a fluke like i said that u got fuel and this happened.
Those codes could also be caused by a failing MDS system.
Something created those codes and its deff not fuel. And for a HARD set code like that means ecu/pcm got a consistent error over and over to toss the code

Re: 6.4 with camshaft/crankshaft sensor engine codes
well i would concur.
Dealer said no codes of those kind. Other miscellaneous codes but nothing serious. Thats a load of BS but it is what it is.
running strong since with no other issues. I will never visit a visibly shit station again.
