Canadian trucks

Post by smokewagon » Tue Apr 09, 2019 12:10 am

I’ve seen a couple used PW’s for sale locally that came down from Canada. Any reason(s) to consider not buying one?

They will need the ECM or BCM flashed to US standards. (miles, etc.) Also, they will have DRLs. The doortag will be in metric. Otherwise, should be the same. My brother imported a 2008 Vette into Canada, and I believe those were the only major changes (I think he had to add DRLs to bring it in, and reflash/do an inspection.)

I imported my second gen from Canada. No big deal. it has DRLs, the door tag is in KG. Speedo is in KM&C instead of MPH&F. (Obviously not digital in those years.)

The other issue depending on year/age is Canada is full on rust belt. High humidity. Salt. Windshields will be trashed, They aren't AZ/CO/NM/NV/UT/CA cars. They are like buying Michigan or Ohio cars.

I bought my first power wagon from a dealership who had bought it at an auction somewhere in British Columbia. It had a ton of rust on the frame and underside of the body. If I had to do it over, I would have been more cautious about what I was getting myself into. I was concerned with the level of rust as time went on.

It also had the daytime running lights.

I have one. No warranty is honored on them but other than that I haven't had any issues. Mines a 15 and it had almost no rust on the undercarriage.

No PW but I bought an explorer that came from Canada. Just check the rust. My frame was terrible looking but not rusted through. Good vehicle but damn.

I've bought 3 PW's from Alberta, yes 3.... main thing as others mentioned, is rust. 2009 ii bought last year was pretty rusty underneath. Alot of them get used in oil fields and such, but my 06 I finally just sold had 520km from Alberta and was still going strong
I just bought a 2011 from Alberta and brought it through the border myself, just needed a letter of compliance, which a broker got for me. Didn't have to change anything on vehicle. Speedo will have larger numbers in km, mph smaller.
