Moved My Winch Plug Inside

Post by TommyG » Sat Mar 02, 2019 3:59 pm

Been meaning to do this since I read NOOB's build thread when I joined here. I live in the Northeast and am always cleaning dirt/corrosion out of the plug.

Factory plug next to the new wire and sheath:

Forgot what mine looks like, went wireless years ago and siliconed that plug solid. Haha

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

I got the Warn Wireless remote. Add a lanyard and now you can run the winch and drag the cable. Use it in cab or out.
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

It's on my list of things to buy. Wanted the plug out of the road salt and grime. Having the controller dummy corded to me while rigging a recovery would be just about ideal.

With the wireless remote and unit stays plugged into the receptical, so it stays protected.

You can keep the wireless module attached to the winch plug at all times? I was concerned with how long the module would last, but I was about to silicone that thing down

I have the one that the receiver had about a 10' cord and mounted it by the air filter. 100% silicone the plug and plug it in and forget it. Been years and no issues on mine.

Yes, you can keep the receiver plugged in. It has a carabiner clip to hold it on if it comes un-plugged. Only happened once to me. I never used the wire controller as the wireless is so much easier.
