Blurry Back-up Camera

Post by ramv » Mon Feb 25, 2019 4:46 pm

My backup camera is all of a sudden blurry. I washed the truck (auto wash) and it has been blurry since. It doesn't appear to be fogged or damaged.

Definitely the tailgate camera part of the system, the cargo camera work fines.

Thanks

Pop the panel on the back of the tailgate off and you can check the connection. Mine has actually unplugged itself several times. Very annoying.

I've heard second hand accounts of this, the culprit was moisture getting into the camera lens. Looks like replacements are about $80.

Thanks guys. Both good suggestions. Where are you seeing camera's for $80? It looks like $177 on Rockauto?

I’ve got the money - but not a lot of time...

I just took it to the dealer... and picked it up that evening - - now the camera is crystal clear again. $128 for the camera part and $85 for the labor

Apparently the dealer has replaced several of these on different vehicles.

All over the internet. Search for the part number on Bill’s invoice.

That's on the mirror, not the camera

According to the details, that part number is only for U Connect 3.0, 8.4/8.N needs the 68274731AE. 56038978AL is $89, 68274731A is $170 at Rock Auto. The Dorman version is a few bucks cheaper on Amazon and others, but still $165 for the Laramie.

Have you tried baking the old one and adding some sealant on it?

I didn't. It mainly has cleared up. I got another one from Rock Auto in case it does it frequently. Then I can try the over on the old one.
