2014+ FRONT DIFFERENTIAL COVER HELP

Post by ExcursionPro » Sun Jan 13, 2019 12:40 pm

I tried to search for this info, but it said the words were too common.

My question is simple:

Which front differential covers have been found to be compatible with the 2014+ Power Wagons?

Which ones are not and why? I keep seeing regurgitated imformation like "that diff cover may not clear on a 2014+ but I don't know why".

I'm not interested in the Carli or Purple Cranium diff guards. If I am doing a guard, I'll just fab it myself.

Carli and Purple Cranium are the top picks and are my suggestion. I highly recommend them. I see no benefit to a full new cover, but I definitely see downsides to the full covers. For example the cast iron ones commonly can deform from impact and develop leaks, and as the horse was beaten to death here not long ago an aftermarket cover might not produce proper oil flow inside the diff. As well there has been fitment issues between aftermarket front covers and the trackbar.

The Carli and Purple Cranium units are definitely the way to go!

I picked up a Carli and got the RuffStuff rear cover back from the powdercoaters today. I had to order what was available to me and in AK the shipping options are limited! Should work out well, hopefully.

Nice!! I really dig the Carli units. I haven’t played with the Ruff Stuffs but they look solid! I don’t think Gale Banks will be crawling under your truck any time soon to disrupt your oil flow.

Many of the aftermarket covers will rub on the track-bar, that's pretty much the only issue. I encourage you to reconsider the purple cranium - you will be hard pressed to fabricate one better and cheaper unless your time doesn't have any value at all :poke:

Purple Cranium can fit front and rear covers into one USPS box and get 'em up here for $18

Whats the fluid capacity on that Ruffstuff rear? I've been planning on picking one up as well.

I am really not sure of the difference post 2014, but I am running a Ballistic Fab front diff cover on my 2006, no clearance issues at all. It is tougher than hell, and in fact took a direct rock hit at about 15-20 mph while cruising up a river wash out here in AZ that completely stopped the truck. No damage. Anyone know how the steering and/or trackbar geometry changed post 2014?

Ballistic Fab does make a rear 11.5 cover too, just not the 10.5 of 3rd gens. My DOR Dodge Offroad rear cover has held up really well too.

The 2014 trucks trackbar gets pretty close to the diff. We saw the AEV cover would contact the trackbar on PW’s in Moab and needed some grinder love. So with that being a replacement cover, that shows how close they sit.
