Sway bar disconnects in 4hi

Post by HeavyDuty » Mon Nov 26, 2018 3:42 pm

Interesting thing happened last weekend. Was out looking for whitetails and went through a big ditch. Had it in 4lo so I disconnected sway bar and locked the diffs. Crawled through without a hitch as usual. But when I shifted back to 4 hi I noticed the sway bar was still disconnected! Shifted back and forth and now it will disconnect in 4 hi. Tested in 2wd and works as it should. Tested speed and it will connect and disconnect at the proper speed. Anyone else heard of this? To tell you the truth I’m not complaining.

Um, on all Power Wagons, it always worked in 4Hi.

Perhaps you never tested and gave it enough time to disconnect in HI...

Sway bar disconnects in 4hi

Post by Low_Sky » Mon Nov 26, 2018 8:57 pm

Unless you left something out, the way you have described it is exactly how it’s supposed to work.

Swaybar disco doesn’t work in 2WD. Works the same way in 4HI and 4LO. Reconnects at 18 mph and has to drop to 14 mph (if I’m remembering correctly) to re-disconnect on its own.

And the bar disco and lockers both rely on splines/teeth for engagement. They have to be at a no-load condition before they will do anything. A lot of new owners hit buttons in their driveway and see flashing lights for ever, and assume things don’t work. In reality, the lockers or bar are just bound up or not in alignment to lock or unlock. Not saying you don’t know how your stuff works, but it’s not uncommon.

If you're not mistaken, then your's has been broken until then. Which is highly unlikely. :thppt:
