Instrument Cluster Lights

Post by WvChamp » Sat Nov 10, 2018 7:11 am

Howdy Guys n Gals,
Hoping for a little help. Did some searching...but haven't found what i'm looking for.
With the headlights on (truck running or not) I can use the dimmer wheel/switch to dim the instrument cluster and the Uconnect display (which i can turn the Uconnect screen "off" if wanted).
My dilemma is....I want to dim or turn off the instrument cluster with the light switch turned off (truck running or in accessories mode).

See.....with the truck running or in accessories mode....headlight switch OFF....The instrument cluster is ON (bright too). No dimming optional....That I can find.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
WvChamp

It looks like you could try pulling fuse #88 or #49 to start with and see what happens. If that doesn't provide the desired result you could try putting a toggle switch on the orange/gray wire at pin #4 of the headlight switch (panel lamps driver circuit).

Maybe just leave your parking lamps on.... unless you want all your lights off for some reason.

Stealth mode.

For night photography, I'd love to be able to leave the truck running, all the exterior lights off, and the panel blacked out so my night adapted vision isn't ruined by sitting in the truck staying warm.

Well...It's like this. When ur settin' at the gate..... 30 minutes before day break......have seen the deer crossin' just after day break.....24 degrees.....I'd like to maybe let the truck run here n there to knock the chill off without being able to land freakin' airplanes. Dang that thing is bright when it's pitch black around ya.
You'd think you'd be able to turn everything off...Or at least Dim everything.
Appreciate the replies.

Ya that’s what I do. Turn the switch to just marker lights. I wish we could turn all lights off. You would think it would be very simple for the engineers to design. But then again. They are “engineers”

Well truth is, it would be simple. But they are engineers and most likely do not understand that this would be a handy thing to be able to do.

I feel your pain. When asked by FCA in post purchase survey, I cited this very same problem. I frequently drive down rural deserted roads at dawn or dusk looking for wildlife. My “solution” is to shove an article of clothing over the gauge display and drape something else over the radio. I may try putting in a switch as noted above. Really peaves me as I could dim these functions on my previous GMC.

someone was once speaking of a harness switch or an aftermarket dial selector to control the actual brightness of the displays at any given time.

ive had this issue in many different vehicles.... but mostly, my jeep jk's, my hellcat, and my ram....i now notice a pattern. some of these vehicles had terrible control over the dash lights whether day or night. too bright, too dim, Headlights must be on...or the threshold of low to off kept the lowest setting way too bright!!!

and @Retired BLM Rig, if you created a module or harness with this feature, that can be tapped to any FCA/Dodge/Jeep/Chysler by looking up those wiring schematics, this will be your highest volume product. Financed by PWR and team

Tested and confirmed: If you want your instrument cluster to go dark on a 2013 - 2019 PW, remove fuses #49 & 88 together.

Be aware that doing this will set code #U0155 in multiple modules, but it does not cause the check engine light to come on.

This has been an issue past 2007. I had an 07 and could turn them off, got a 2010 and could not. Never could figure it out. Wanted all lights off for night hunting with night vision. Had to cover dash with a towel.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.
