Hardwire has been one of the best mods to date. I just recommend everyone ditch the factory setup.
Do you happen to have a video or any info on how you went about this? It seems like you posted something before, but it was on instagram or facebook where I could not view it. I would love to see what you did and how you got it done. I am done waiting for a plug and play setup. I could care less if I have to add extra switches, and cutting into the factory wiring doesn't really scare me much anymore.

Does you factory switch still operate as intended?

No, the factory switch will no longer work.

My own personal criteria for hardwiring would be:
  • The factory system dies.
  • I can’t fix it.
  • The warranty has expired.
  • Parts become obsolete.
I assume that most of these points played a role in BoldAdventures decision to hardwire, not to mention the time constraints for Moab.

I would prefer to keep the factory system functional as long as possible unless it became cost prohibitive.

If the lockers functioned as well as the Jeep Rubicon setup I would agree. But the periodic struggle with them is annoying. I would love to just be able to flip a switch and BAM their locked.

What if the hardwire "taps" did not actually cut through (split) the original wire, but just tied into it (with some type of waterproof T setup, or those cheap taps I used on my jeep)... would the factory switch still work then? Oh hell I dont know, I guess I dont even know why I care if the factory switch would even work anymore... I know I would never use it again.

You could do that. You'd just be over-riding the system and giving it 12 volt. You could even wire right into the harness near the smart bar if you want to dig through that harness. The way I did it seemed the easiest to me and fastest to figure out. Boom bang done.

And it's pretty instant. Used a bunch in Moab and it was nice to just hit the button have them locked, hit the button, have them unlocked while I was in the middle of doing an obstacle. Which was a huge advantage.

As you recall my smart bar was damaged, and I didn't have time to get it repaired. My system worked fine before the damaged pins. According to PitSlave you need to do some serious soldering. And when I took it apart, I knew I wasn't fixing it myself with a few days to go. But I don't regret hardwiring them. I also switched to the manual disconnect. Which has also been fantastic. Lots of roads made smooth that I don't need 4WD on but can still have my sway bar disconnected.

I am loving manual life.

Any video on installing the relays and where you bought the switches? Will this mod work on a 2008 Power Wagon?

Someone is now developing a bypass. Should be done anytime now. For real this time... he also made a nanny bypass.

I'll revive this thread. Lockers worked fine last weekend while hunting. Today they worked for a while and then the lights all were flashing again. Damn things anyway. The sway bar disconnect is working fine. I was busting a lot of snow drifts today, really needed them. Even without the lockers I was able to go where no one else has even attempted to go. Sure glad the winch works.....

I've found that if I disconnect the battery it resets whatever is screwed up, I really think it's something with the smartbar. The lockers will then work fine for a while, until they don't. My bypass from retired BLM rig will be here tomorrow.

What boggles my mind is that Jeep can get their lockers to work almost instantly, as well as my wife’s Colorado ZR2, but Ram can’t get their shit together and just make a simple system that works like it should.

I got my '05 stuck three times in deep sand in September and I could lock the front diff but not the rear diff. Tried to crawl out of the sand and the fronts were doing what they are supposed to do but the rears were just slinging sand, even with the limited slip. New transfer case position sensor went in last year, so I guess it's time to clean the magnets again. Anyone tried a magnetic diff plug on a cast iron or steel cover (Rock Crusher in rear)?

I run a FilterMag inside the diff case. It works excellent. The sensor magnet has stayed almost spotless for a few years now.

I think it's all the safety nannies that Ram put on the lockers. They certainly made them way to difficult, I'm looking forward to putting the locker bypass on.

I found this while I was looking for magnetic plugs. Gale Banks on designing the optimal diff cover. Never thought much about fluid dynamics inside a diff, but this is one of the best videos I have ever seen on YouTube. Worth watching. And they did the dyno testing on a Dodge CTD. The covers for 2500s are on sale now for $400, shipping later this month.
