PW Axle n Suspension Swap Question (& Locker Wiring)

Post by Rob-Pod » Sun Jul 29, 2018 11:31 am

I'm going to be buying a 06 Hemi Mega Cab very soon n I've been thinking about
swapping the suspension n axles from my 05 Power Wagon under the Mega Cab.

Reason being is because I know I wont get anywhere near the $ I have into my PW,
Even with it being very clean, heated leather n suede seats, NO Rust, 177K, a 2005,
QCSB, paint is in pretty good shape with the exception of some chalky clear coat on
the roof I'd be lucky to get $10,500 for it. So if I swap axles n the suspension (control
n pitman arms) I'd be a lil better with not getting what I think my truck is worth.

I've seen write ups for hotwiring the lockers in a PW, I'd like to know how n what
to wire on a NON Power Wagon. I'm sure I'm not the 1st person to do this, Right?

For me the Lockers n SmartBar have Never worked in this truck, but I'd like to try n
get them to work in my new (to me) truck. I'm also gonna put the winch on my Mega Cab.

Also plan on taking the PW badging and adding a few letters to make it say MEGA POWER WAGON.

If things go the way I hope they will (they usually don't) I wanna add a Turbo n a SRT 6.1.

To add the axles, the wiring is very easy. Just need 12V hot and ground wires, and switches in the cab. The other two wires in the plug are for the sensing required by the smart bar. A little searching on this forum will show you the pin outs in the plugs. If you want to move the smart bar over, just do it with an EVO manual knob.

The loss you're going to take selling the Power Wagon without locking axles and winch will exceed the cost of lockers and a winch in the new truck. Wiring the electric lockers is simple, it's just positive and negative through a relay.

Taking the axles and winch from a PW cuts the value of the PW. Those parts is what makes the PW. How many people lurk here looking for info on used PW's. And putting PW badges on something that's not a PW. Get your flame suit on.

A Mega Wagon is my dream truck.

This is the connector you'll need for the axles.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Harley-4X-GR ... m570.l1313

Use these plugs to cap off the two empty cavities you'll have in the connector.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Harley-Mole ... 1105712565

You'll need this kind of tool to crimp the terminals correctly.

Hardwire Diagram 5.jpg
Using relays would be best but here's a basic diagram.
You don't have to run the 12V negative wires back to the battery, they could just ground to the frame.

This is how to orient the wires in the connector.
Good luck! :patriot:

There is a crazy Canadian who transplanted all the parts from a crashed PW to a Cummins. It works pretty well, but you’ll be nose heavy. He built a big AR steel front bumper and winch mount, as the winch won’t fit inside with the diesel.

Rob-Pod said his Mega Cab is a Hemi, so he should have zero issues doing a swap.
Also since none of the components currently function correctly on the PW, he would have to sell it at less than full value or diag and repair everything just to sell it for low BB due to high milage and paint issues. I fully support the idea to swap and hardwire, he'll increase the resale value of the Mega Cab and sell the PW as a regular 2500.

However, it does seem like there should be a moment of silence after the PW is castrated.

(Waking A Dead Thread)

Now that My PW Swap is done, thankfully didn't have any real issues.

What color wires do I tap to "HotWire" both of my lockers? Do I need a
special switch for the lockers? Is there a way to "HotWire" the sway bar
also, because I'm also gonna gank that also. Making a Mega Power Wagon.

I'm not a huge fan of wiring, but this is just tapping a few different wires.

The locker wires don't exist in the Mega Cab wiring harness. You're going to have to tap into the big red and big black wire on top of the battery.

There's currently no hardwire option for the sway bar.

Any switch with a rating of 10 amps or more per axle should do the trick.

Post some pics!

EVO Manufacturing manual sway bar actuator, same one they sell for the Rubicons. Or the air-actuated model if you’re going to have OBA and want to do it from the cab.

Yup, EVO manual is hard to beat for the price. Yes, you have to manually turn it. It's not so bad really.
