No long arms.
So far I was thinking of, and in no specific order:
- Carli (straight or advanced)
- DOR
- Thuren (Alien?)
- OEM
Thanks, Russ. Aren't they similarly priced to the Carli? I did notice that the Thuren are bent to allow tire clearance, and they're already a half inch longer, so I think for the value they may be the better solution, because I just read up that the Carli standard are not bent and will probably rub with 35 inch tires.
The standard Carli arms are off-set for tire clearance.13powerwagon wrote: ↑Sat Jul 14, 2018 9:40 pmI believe Carli has 2 types, a standard and a high clearance, both considered short arms. The standard are 700 and the high clearance are 950, both are 1/2” longer than stock. Thuren’s short arms are 760 I believe, they are 1/2” longer than stock and bent for better clearance.
The Thuren Alien brackets hang down too low for Rausch Creek and it's rock gardens. Bill and his 3G with the 6" BDS lift bends arms there.DamageWagon wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 1:20 amIf it’s not in the budget, make are the control arm bolts are TIGHT TIGHT. My arms are totally gone but still work fine. I have sympathy for my driveshaft but otherwise it doesn’t hurt anything.
If you’re buying new arms, either go proper budget and get the Thuren short arms or go for the best setup and get Thuren alien arms. I feel like a broken record saying this stuff but the short arms from Thuren are the best product for what you pay, clearance for big tires and very stout. The long arms are tits for ride quality. If you pay less you get cheaper joints, unless you rock crawl a lot then the Meta Cloaks might be good
I've only seen pic's of the Alien set-up. And from the looks of the rear bracket. It hangs down low. So, I'm not sure on them.DamageWagon wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 4:06 pmThe Aliens are super stout and those brackets are ideal for sliding over rocks. I replaced a set of BDS long arms with a set of Aliens on a truck that went to Moab - zero comparison. The older BDS arms made of 2.0”x.120” DOM didn’t stand a chance and were bent like crazy
From the looks of the pictures of the Alien Arms, they don't look like they will work with the OEM Rock Rails.RustyPW wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 4:46 pmI've only seen pic's of the Alien set-up. That certainly could be, I don’t recall how the front brackets mount for the OEM slidersAceMan wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 5:30 pmFrom the looks of the pictures of the Alien Arms, they don't look like they will work with the OEM Rock Rails.RustyPW wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 4:46 pmI've only seen pic's of the Alien set-up. Here you go, DamageWagon. I hope this gives you an idea how they're bolted in their frame. The front mount is literally where the rear of the Alien control arm would have to be welded on. Same thing applies to other long arms and radius arms, that I've seen over the years, which was one primary factor why I never went with a long arms.DamageWagon wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 6:47 pmThat certainly could be, I don’t recall how the front brackets mount for the OEM sliders
I am a dealer/installer for Thuren if you (or anybody here) need parts, or have questions or need help troubleshooting
Just installed a set of thuren Bent arms on an 06. O rub on 37s and stock wheels. I highly reccommend them
You should do a build thread on that truck dude. The control arms are by far the least interesting thing you did to it!!
