3G frame skid bars. Bad news!

Post by RustyPW » Fri Jul 13, 2018 10:07 pm

Bad news for us 3G guys. The 3 skid bars under the frame are no longer being carried by Ram. I bent the chit out of one and ripped it off the frame at the front at Rausch Creek when I got hung up on the boulder. Ram now has them listed as vintage parts. The parts guy gave me a web address to go to, to see if there are any left in the country. There was 15 left before I ordered 3 of them. So now there is 12 left in the country. The part number is 52121534AA. The web address is.

www.vpartsinc.com.

What the parts guy said. There is some other parts for the 3G PW headed for the vintage list. But he don't know which parts yet.

Vintage? Seriously. Must be due to low production numbers. If 2008 is vintage, what does that make us?
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

This is a bit overkill, but I've been talking with DamageWagon about doing something similar, but seeing how we can do so without ruining ground clearance completely.

I have all but murdered most of the bars under my truck. They're all bent to hell and back. They're fine for most, but not strong enough for Moab.

How much mud and rock would collect in those?

Less than the extra flat plating shown in that picture. What's the value of the passenger side plating? That looks like a longbed so I'd be curious what a shortbed skid system looked like. With bars that size you probably don't need plate.

It looks like a diesel with a DPF, so that plate on the passenger side would protect all that useless emissions crap.

The bars fit 2005 to 2009. What the parts guy showed me on the computer. Is the number of times the parts get sold. And the number was ZERO. So items like this get moved to the vintage list where this company buys all of the vintage list stuff from Chrysler. In a couple years. Some 4G items will be on the list too. The winch mount will be the first on the vintage.

I believe the word your looking for is "antique !!! ", and yes, I am also included in that. LOL

Those bars are really NOT that HD. It would be easy to make some or have some made of even better material. The metal stock, a torch, recip saw & drill press & a angle grinder is about all you would need. Not hard, just time consuming. --- :cash: :cash: :cash:

Mine were damaged and removed when I had the fuel pump replaced. I priced out the parts, and they were about $150, but I never bothered replacing them. I like the one from DamageWagon, but that looks like it's going to be pretty expensive.

From the website I posted. They are about $43.00 each. 3 of them plus shipping is $154.00.

Anything that doesn't need replacing or fails, doesn't sell so it would make sense that it would go into vintage storage or warehousing. My truck was still under the factory warranty when they needed a part that had to be pulled from vintage. From my understanding, anything that sits unsold/unused for a 3 or 4 year period in the mainstream stock of dealerships; will get pulled. It either gets transferred over to vintage or tossed in the trash. The amount of stuff that gets tossed in the trash is baffling! A buddy of mine who used to work over one of the dealerships would constantly drop of random stuff that was slated for the dump, all brand new. Anything from radios, brake pedal assemblies, filters, hoses/lines, and gasket sealers/aerosol cans.

So consider it a good thing that it was spared from the trash.

2X. The new one just don't excite me. The only thing I wish I had was the power of the new motor.
