Finally got new tires for the 16.

Post by waldo » Thu Jul 12, 2018 12:41 pm

I had an old thread here last year about tires after a stick went through the sidewall of the OEM Duratrac. I got busy and never got around to buying new ones until now since they still had plenty of life left.

Anyway, I ended up with Mickey Thompson ATZ P3's.

Can't even describe how much better the truck handles on the roads here in WV. You no longer have to wait for the tire to decide to go along with the steering input in and out of the curves. No carcass roll like the Duratracs. I was able to just steer the truck through most of the curves that would have had me on the brakes with the OEM tires. Quiet too.

How they'll do in the snow is an unknown (until winter).

I had the older Mickey Thompson ATZ's on my 07 the large tread blocks usually develop uneven wear pattern my personally like the Toyo RT's a lot better, 35's will fit your truck and would be a great choice.

Too late now :P These are they newer design. We'll see how they wear. Got free lifetime balance and rotation. I stayed stock size because it barely gets under the garage door header as it is.

What pressure did you run in the Duratracs when they would "carcass roll" on the highway?

65-68. Really didn't matter. Felt like you were driving an unresponsive boat. Night and day difference.

Like I said, I have my reasons for not going bigger than stock.

So imagine what it must feel like for the guys that run the Duratracs at 40 psi

I agree running my Duratrash at 40PSI after having 6 flats in Colorado on gravel roads, plus more on my road to my house, and not only have I not had another flat but they ride and handle better. Nervously twitching as I wait for my new tires.
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

I hear the P3's are a totally different tire than the older ATZ's. I had them on my shortlist when I purchased new tires. I hear that Cooper makes the Mickey's now.

It's good to hear a positive review on them.
