For as much shit as we give them, if they just marketed it honestly, and stopped acting like it’s something it’s not and maybe lowered the price by 800.00 I probably wouldn’t say shit about it. But “it’s not a spacer lift” and “engineering” and “factory handling” and “our shit don’t stink”
But I’m preaching to the choir in the wrong thread.

Has anyone ever tried Axletech Portals? Big money, but 5” of ground clearance is huge and you could probably run 40’s with those alone on factory geometry. Truss and hydro would be wise, though.

5” is a huge amount, I wouldn’t want my truck that tall. That’s a 5” Lift on a 3” suspension Lift on a 3.5” tire radius lift. And your poor unit bearings! Don’t say lockout hubs...Chromolykid wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 12:22 pmHas anyone ever tried Axletech Portals? Portals sound cool. Someone always mentions them. Like 0.1% ever do portals, and it’s usually a SEMA build or something. Now, if I could do portals and just had globs of money... maybe.
But it’s easier to just not drive the diff into rocks. Of course I still manage to bash into things. So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let’s notch the frame in front of the cab, make new motor mounts to raise the engine up a touch and run fiberglass fenders. How does another 6” of bump travel sound. Oh full hydro steer and a triangulated 4-link are probably required at that point

It’s all in addition to their other kits!!! $700++ just for the corners of your AEV bumper to match the high mark flares. Flares sold separately. LOLadeluca73 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 3:04 pm

With the 1.5 gear reduction of portals, would a 4.10 even need to be re geared ?
Re: 40-Inch Tire Discussion (Or anything bigger than 37's)
I doubt it! I seriously looked at the axletech portals for my Jeep, but it would have put it too damn tall. Went with protock 60’s without portals. I’d love to get a RCLB radius arm truck and do them with no suspension lift at all and the aev high fenders

Re: 40-Inch Tire Discussion (Or anything bigger than 37's)
Fab fours state that those fenders ( https://fabfours.com/product/open-fender-system/ ) are for "Off-Road use ONLY." How lame. How about some road legal ones that can be easily removed for off roading ? That would make way more sense to me.

Re: 40-Inch Tire Discussion (Or anything bigger than 37's)
This is the difference between DOT compliance and DOT certification. If it’s compliant, and you install it and an issue arises from it, you are liable. If it is installed according to spec and it is certified, the manufacturer is liable for issues that arise form it. There’s a big difference between DOT compliant and DOT certified. Compliant means ‘this part does not infringe on any DOT rules.’ DOT certified means ‘we have lawfully installed these parts in their intended manner into a fleet of vehicles and crash tested these vehicles and maintained crash test ratings with proper install of parts.’
I don’t know of a single part that is, from any company including AEV, DOT certified. The customer assumes ALL liability in how they use any accessory they add to their vehicle. The reason nothing is DOT certified is that you have to install that part on the vehicle and do ALL the crash testing. At a previous company we were requested to make one of our vehicle builds DOT certified, for only one production vehicle, and it was going to cost several million dollars to fully 100% build something like 12 of these vehicles with every single part they would have including $40,000 computers and satellite dish and weather station and command cabinet, and we were going to have to pay a test lab to destroy every one. Hence, nobody makes anything DOT certified. The customer was happy disregarding certification and keeping things compliant.
There is no practical difference in any of this for the average customer. Times when this comes into play is for municipal service vehicles like school buses or city buses, or other over-the-road equipment that has the potential for massive liability like killing several passengers or bystanders causing a HAZMAT incident. People with lifted trucks and aftermarket bumpers get into accidents all the time and insurance handles things and everyone walks away from things taken care of. A school bus driver looks back at screaming kids and crashes the bus and the insurance company immediately faults the driver for breaking a cardinal rule and all damages to persons and property come directly out of the drivers bank account. That’s the difference, generally.
I could be wrong on portions of this but this is my understanding and this is why we get ‘for off-road use only’ on our parts.

38’s or 40’s ??
38’s are looking pretty reasonable. And I could run them a lot sooner, with less mods. Way less. Sorta.

Re: 40-Inch Tire Discussion (Or anything bigger than 37's)
The difference between 40's and 38's is only the flares and the bump drops. The cost of the tires is almost the same, weight is almost the same, and you're still going to have to regear. You'll probably have a lot more rubbing with the 38's though since you won't be removing the pinch weld.

Re: 40-Inch Tire Discussion (Or anything bigger than 37's)
I personally like what I saw of that fabfour trimming kit. If you're truly into offroading I don't think cutting is an issue. Just my view. It's easy for me to say cause the hood is the only straight panel on my truck. I don't think I would use the flares but the flare base would be good with me. I really can't talk about the later power wagon's but my 06 was a bear turning while rock crawling on 37"s before hydro assist. If you haven't spent a lot on your front axle I would consider going to another axle if going to 40"s and any offroading. If keeping the same axle then hydro assist, quality free spin kit, upgraded ball joints, truss with stronger mounts would be a good idea. I've been around some big lifted trucks. If it's not done right then it becomes all show.
