Really no point buying a kit if you’re going to take it to a shop. Might as well buy the bolt on’s.

1/3rd would be paying 350-450 for the materials, bent tube, mounting hardware and you welding it together. Like some of the other kits out there.

If your time is free; then you saved.

The aluminess sliders are made out of steel. Their main flaw is they mount to the same spot the factory steps do, I believe Ram4roks had them and ended up ripping the mounting holes from repeated abuse, if I remember correctly.

My fault. I have their front bumper and the bottom of it got some nice gouges in it.

Gotcha, kind of what I figured. Thanks for the input. Have fun in Moab. If I wind up keeping my truck I might try to attend next year if there’s another PWIM event. Maybe get a chance to test these RED “sliders” Sorry for the hijack.

Im always down for saving money. When you say one third the cost, after finding a competent welder to fab them up, what do you figure the price difference would be? Would it be comparable to fully built ready to install set?

Mikekey, I feel if he had both of the options he would probably sell them both like hotcakes. But if he only made one, I would go with fully built.

AdamC, if you have to pay someone to weld it up anyway, might as well just buy them that way to begin with. Will probably be cheaper that way.

frame mounted sliders are not ideal for mostly road going vehicles.

a higher speed fender bender can turn into frame bending truck totaling fatality.
along with some bumper designs and hitch receivers. unless its an Asian vehicle...then youll implode it.

not sure how likely or often that happens on 2500s but i know the 1500s and jeeps cant take frame mount hardware hits.

but i would never add rock sliders that arent frame mounted. i just dont see how the weight of the truck can be suspended by the body/cab mounts. this just doesnt seem physically possible without major wear and tear. body bushings? im concerned stepping on my side step at the same time as a rear passenger...im 230Lbs and worried...not dumbfounded because Jeep JKU

but i neglected to consider frame twist and WK sliders. do these trucks really flex like i just read on RED website? rock sliders are for slow crawls and you shouldnt be bashing on them as if romping through trails rocking ledges in ultra 4 manner.
a nice drop once in a while shouldnt be an issue right? but can I hi lift jack point on these rails either in the center or extended to either end?

If you get in a fender bender or t-boned I’d 100% rather have sliders than not. It takes a serious hit to permanently deform those sliders or the frame, and if you get that hit I’d rather have sliders theatre going to kee the offending vehicle out of my passenger compartment! There’s pics of a 2011 with aluminess body-mounted sliders that got t-boned in an intersection and it totally destroyed the front of the car while the truck suffered a ding to the door and a bend to the sliders. If you’re taking a hit I’d for sure want more protection.

Didn't GTOMike get hit in the sliders with no damage recently, and a bunch of damage to the offending vehicle?

Also as for frame bend, I've had my entire truck jacked up by the sliders and I've used jack stands on them as well.

It was 210 to phx... decided to pick mine up and drive it home... spent 150$ in gas and a day driving... the joy of bringing it home... priceless...

I have driven from NY to Cali - but not in the Power Wagon - 3 days there - 3 days back

I had my WK sliders shipped - shipping was cheaper in the old days

Shipping prices have gone up in the past couple years on everyone. They should offer fastnel shipping. It'd be even cheaper. Problem is freight is expensive. And those are heavy SOB's. I was blown away at how heavy they were when I picked them up.

Mine with the 2x4 rail is almost 300lbs for the pair

I think mine were 135 pounds a piece. They are the thicker tube ones.

Yea shipping weight for mine is 365 pounds with the flat plates
