Lifetime Power Train Warranty for 3G

Post by RustyPW » Tue Feb 06, 2018 7:42 pm

Just took my '08 3G in today for it's 5 yr inspection for the Lifetime Power train warranty. They looked all over the PW. They questioned the CAI/Snorkel set-up, the freespin hubs, and the RCV front axles. They really liked the Aluminess front bumper. They was surprised at all the dents in the skid plates. While I was waiting for them to get done. Had a salesman trying his hardest to get me to trade in on a new one. I asked him how many times have you seen me in here with this PW to get servicing? He said he has seen me drive in, but never for serving. I said yep, the PW has been great. Very little problems with it. So it's a keeper. And he walked away on that. Oh....this is my 2nd 5 yr inspection. They didn't find anything wrong. No leaks, no nothing.

RustyPW - It's 10 years old - It's only a matter of time before you have a RustyPW. The salt is an eventual killer - any rust on the fenders or rockers yet?
Better trade while they still make Power Wagons :poke:

I guess that's why I opted not to get any type of lifetime warranty - I've never had a vehicle last more than 10 years before it started to turn into a rust bucket up north here.

We eventually had to get the DMV to revoke my grandfather's drivers license because he was too old and senile to drive. He used to go to car dealerships and look at new cars even though his car at the time was going to be his last car.

Didn't have to buy the lifetime warranty. In '08. It came with the truck. It was one of their promotions. They offered it for free. Twinstick has it too.

Wish I had the warranty on my '13 TrailHawk. Found out today that it needs a front diff. That's $1,900 installed. :box: The warranty on the TrailHawk was 5 ys, 60,000 mile. Well.......i have 63,000 miles on it.

This is one of the reasons I had seller's regret on my 2007 Power Wagon as it also had the promotional lifetime warranty. I did pay for the lifetime warranty on my 2017. Part of me hopes I never have a major problem with the truck and part of me hopes the warranty pays for itself. It wasn't cheap.

So, what does a lifetime warranty cost ? And does it cover the drivetrain ?

Reason I am asking is they tried to play the name game with me, for my rear locker. What saved me was: it said everything inside the axle was covered. They kept showing me the "NEW warranty wording", saying that electrical modules & actuators are NOT covered. They changed the name from "the rear locker assembly" to "the rear locker actuator." Then pointed to the paper & said "see---actuator's are NOT covered."

I must have repeated it a thousand times............My powertrain is not working properly---I have a Lifetime powertrain warranty. Yes, it is that simple. They eventually covered it in full, around $4700+.

$3000 plus or minus.

Im not completely sure of their limitations yet. I will soon find out, though, as I may need to dump it depending on what they say.

I have the lifetime powertrain on my '08 Avenger. Just had my 2nd 5yr inspection done two months ago at 229,000 miles. No issues so far. Covers everything and anything to do with the motor internals/trans/cv's etc.

Have the lifetime powertrain warranty on our 08 Durango and it was free when we purchased it. It will go in for its 2nd inspection in July. I have the lifetime bumper to bumper on my 10 PW and on our 17 Grand Cherokee. Paid $2800 on the PW and $2600 for the GC. It's a no brainer for me to have the warranties because we keep vehicles for several years and the warranty will pay for itself after a while. I plan on keeping my Powerwagon for a very long time. It is paid for and I only have 54,000 miles on it. It sill looks new.

So I had the Mopar powertrain warranty with my 2009 as a promo. They gave me the option with the 17 (Mopar vs dealership). Has anyone explored the difference? From what I've researched/read the Mopar does cover everything and the dealership specific ones may leave something to be desired. I can say I have no personal experience as the 2009 never actually needed any major work so I have never actually invoked the Mopar lifetime warranty.

My question is, when you put larger tires on, different shocks/suspension, gears, tuners, stickers, cummmy stains on the seatsor whathaveyou..... then they start backpeddlin’ like a betch and leave ya hanging. I’m not gonna pay for that...

If you are thinking about the lifetime warranty (I didn't have to pay for it). Then it depends on what you are planning on doing for mods. The more mods, the less you will need the warranty because of not covering the changes.

Im just worried that any little mod will start a domino effect of what will no longer be covered. Does adding lights or doing small electrical changes like that make all electronics no longer covered? Obviously shouldnt, but does it? Or does puting a leveling kit on the truck mean the rear end is no longer covered, or the tcase, or motor? How picky are they?

And checkups? My dealer has never said a peep about a checkout. Ive had my truck for almost two years and its never been to the dealer except once for a recall.

Everything I've heard or read (at the dealership and on forums) leads me to believe that they will go out of the way to void their obligations based on a customers' modifications. That being said, I can get into plenty of trouble stock, which is the whole reason I bought the truck and as it ages I can utilize the warranty until such time as I feel like it crosses over to the realm of toy and then damn the warranty and let the modifications begin. Of course this is all subject to finding a situation or terrain that I can't play in stock. So far I've logged about 62 miles of mountain trails in 4wd and used the lockers on a few climbs. That being said it's almost anti-climactic. It really is a find the line, point, shoot and idle up affair (4 Lo, both ends locked and sway bar disconnected). Actually it's harder to stop. My other toys are IH Scouts so this is coming from someone who plays with old tractors of the 100" wheelbase variety.

I was told explicitly that installing a turbocharger/supercharger would void the power train warranty. More than a 6" lift would void other parts of the warranty. There were other ways to do that too, they suggested discussing major mods with them first.

The lifetime end-end with $100 deductible was $3500, but that was rolled into the financing. Not the best price, but I wanted it in the loan.
