Cool hidden features

Post by olyelr » Tue Jan 23, 2018 6:52 pm

Just found a few hidden features of my truck recently and thought I would share. If they are not hidden, they are certainly stuff I did not know about in the past.

The first is the windshield washer sprayer setup. That has always been a big pet peeve of mine about the truck... quickly tap the button and instead of it spraying a bit of fluid (like most vehicles) it instantly turns on the wipers. It is not very handy when the wipers turn on before the spray comes out. Well, I finally realized that if you HOLD the button down ALL THE WAY DOWN it will spray fluid only, then when released the wipers will come on. The quick tap just turns the wipers on (which is another cool feature I guess).

The other is with the XM radio. I noticed that with any of the preset channels, if you switch from one to another it will automatically start the current playing song at the beginning (unless you are switching back to a preset that you already listened to a portion of the current song). I think this is quite handy, especially if you are a channel surfer. I also realized you can rewind songs. Must be some type of DVR setup.

Just though I would share!

Your wiper settings must be different. On mine I love that you just tap it and it does one wipe. It’s a always raining on and off here in Portland so clearing the windshield is nice. On my truck if I hold the wiper button it does two wipes before it starts spraying fluid. I wish it sprayed immediately. I use that a lot when we are in the desert and it’s dusty or we hit a big mud puddle. I’d like it to spray right away so I don’t trash my wiper blades on the dust or mud without clean water leading them.

The most handy feature I found was turning off the stupid seatbelt chime.

I think you just push the rewind button on the screen, if I remember correctly.

That sounds just like my wiper settings. It works the same... always pissed me off that the wipers moved before the fluid would spray out. But, make sure you are completely pressing (sliding) the button knob down all the way, and hold it there.

Yes, that damn seatbelt chime delete is a good one for sure! Such an annoying feature, and I wear my seatbelt 100% of the time I drive on-road.

Also, if you have a song saved as a "favorite" (which can be numerous different songs), if one starts playing on a different station than you are listening to, a little icon will come up on the screen to notify you about it.

Pressing the button once turns it to accesories, twice to on (basically just like a key).

How do rewind a song
After checking today, to actualy rewind songs you have to hit the "replay" button, then the rewind and fast forward feature will show up near the top. Each time you start the truck it will begin DVR'ing all of your preset channels automatically and continue keeping all of it saved for up to an hour from the current time I believe. When you shut the truck off it starts all over again. If it is a channel that is not a favorite, then it will start DVR'ing as soon as you start listening, and will delete everything when you stop listening to that channel.

The above sequence should work for any of the newer models, including a tradesman.

Yes, Just turn the key to Accessory (don't start it) and then connect and disconnect the seatbelt 3 times in 10 seconds, and then turn the ignition back off.

I did exactly as you said three separate times and it didn't work. I didn't let the seatbelt retract back all the way, is that it?
Sequence was: 1) turn the key to accessory; 2) pull driver side seatbelt down and insert and remove it three times in driver side seatbelt female portion; 3) return seatbelt back to fully retracted position; 4) turn the key from accessory to off and remove the key.

Edit: let me google that for you (me).

Looks like the differences are the seatbelt should be on before you insert the key and the truck needs to be on run, not accessory.

Still trying to get the seatbelt. Think I was on accessory not run. Will try again.
Also on cool features, I was able to once get my foglights on with high beams. (switch on light, not auto, pull stalk to flash to pass then push all the way forward rapidly). I tried it a bunch though and only got it to work once.

Procal works way better. Fogs on with the fog button, regardless of whether in auto or regular, regardless of hi/lo

Yes, if the gear selecter on the display is reading what number the trans is in, it will not come on. Even if it is up in 6th gear. Also dosnt come on when the tow/haul button is being used.

It rarely ever comes in with the pw’s anyway. Not sure about the “regular” 3/4 ton hemi’s, but I know my half ton hemi is always in mds mode, and consistantly gets 17-20 mpg. Just turned 5000 miles with it. Now that winter is here its down in the mid 17s-18s. All fall it was 19-20.

I do always turn off the MDS, otherwise sometimes it kicks on when coasting in traffic and it kind of lurches when re accelerating.
