2019 1500 Info Release

This is the Macho Power Wagon concept, pay close attention and you'll notice a few elements on this concept that you can now spot on the 2019 Ram Rebel. Notice the hood, and the bumper seems to have elements of the Rebel's bumper with the AEV bumper. I really think we are going to see some of these elements on the 2020 Power Wagon.

Well numerous elements of this truck did make it into the 17, styling wise. To me the best thing they could do is swap to those better bumpers for 2019.

Yea, 37’s and 4.88’s would be a warm welcome too.

I doubt they'd do 4.88's and 37's, but it would be really cool if from the factory they setup the new suspension and truck knowing that people will put 35's or 37's on their truck. Mopar did this with the new JL. They know guys want bigger tires. So they made it that you could run 35's right out of the box on your own.

It would be cool if the suspensions/wheels were adjusted however so that you could stuff a 35 or 37 with zero level and no rubbing right out of the box. Maybe include those larger fender flares.

I dunno. Seems like designing for 35's but coming with 33's would be easy enough.

Those bumpers and the recovery points look fantastic. I can imagine them going cheap on the production side and making the hooks look a little more boring, however.

I really think the PW deserves a factory front bumper with better forward tire approach. And adding rear recovery points is a great idea and speaks to what the Power Wagon is and is capable of.

Economics. There is what the enthusiast wants, and what is good for the company. I can only speak in terms of the 1500 on this pet theory, but I suspect part of why that won't happen is 35's will damper MPG results which they have worked carefully to inflate. They don't even offer the Rubicon with 35's. And Jeep right now is FCA's number one selling vehicle year over year.

You ever notice that the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tire is on a lot of trucks? Ford, Chevy, Ram and a bunch of other SUV's and crossovers too. Manufacturers usually do big deals with tire makers to get the best return on investment. Those are ok tires, but they're cheap. I suspect the 33's add to the bottom line.

But think about this, if the Jeep comes with 33-inch Duratracs and the Rebel comes with them now too, this means sticking them on the Power Wagon is cost-effective since it's part of the bulk order for the company.

The new JL runs, 285/70/17, the Rebel also runs 285/70/17 and the Power Wagon runs, you guessed it 285/70/17

If all of a sudden they're buying a smaller batch of more expensive tires for a smaller production run, it makes zero financial sense from the companies perspective to their bottom line.

So here is where it would get interesting: Assuming Ram stays with a transmission with similar drive ratios, 35's or 37's would beg to be paired with different axle gears to allow for towing. They will certainly think that 4.88 gears are too low to yield reasonable fuel mileage. 4.88's with 37's results in a lower final drive ratio than 4:10's with 33's. Although most of us aren't that concerned with fuel mileage, they would be - especially on any half ton model where the value would impact their fleet numbers.
