37" tires with 4.10 for those who do have

I have a 2017 with 6.4 motor and 4.10 gears never drove it with the factory 33" tires put 35" on it and am very pleased with performance and drive, fuel encomy not so much but that is not why I have this truck. I am thinking about going ahead with 37. I will not re gear. Those of you with my motor and gear set up with 37, how much performance loss. how about towing? Not worried about fit tell me about drivability. Thanks

I haven't towed with 37's yet. I don't notice the performance hit around town or when offroad.

But I will say, I have noticed it going up any type of elevation. It feels like a loaded down truck. I forget what the effective ratio is, but you'll notice it. You just bump the RPM's up some more and you're fine.

On flat land except for a bridge with a mild to decent grade my 2015 on 37" tires pulls my 7000-7500lb boat/trailer combo with the greatest of ease. Never pulled that much with the OEM 33" tires. I've never seen trans temps above 172 degrees. I wouldn't let it hold you back unless you plan to pull much heavier and/or at high elevations through mountains.

Its about equivalent to having 3.65 gears with the stock tires.

That is kinda whats holding me back from 37s right now (until I regear). With stock tires I already feel like I want the truck to have 4.56’s. I mean, it works, I just wish it was geared lower yet. So I dont really even wanna try it.

I had an ‘06 5.7 2500 Hemi with 3.73’s and going by memory (that was a while ago) that thing seemed to have way more pep and get up n go then my current Power Wagon with stock tires.

And daily road driving is where I think I would miss not having the regear the most... although that may be because I probably dd the truck 90 more than off roading it.

Remember the 5.7 came with a 5-speed and an underpowered engine. Those gears were very appropriate for it. The 6.4 Hemi comes with a 6-speed, with better power and torque and I believe the 4.10's paired better with the 6-speed for milage, which was likely something they were going for.

If you want better gearing you'd go to 4.88's not 4.56 which would be barely noticeable on the 6.4 Hemi.

No problem... i appreciate the apology... paulo is my middle name... only use that in forums..

that said.. i really am not an expert.. just a hobbyist that gets my hand dirty to relax from treating peoples issues day in day out...

Had 37" on my 2016 PW with factory 4.10 gears for about a year.....I did not like driving the truck - lack of power, confused shift points, pulling hills in 3rd gear...etc. Not sure what helped more, re gearing to 4.88 or adding the AEV procal once it came out as a stand alone item. Either way the combination of both made a night and day difference. I would suggest the procal for sure with 37" (if you haven't already) and go from there. FYI...I went gears first as procal was not available yet.

ProCal is a must. The truck improved a lot with the procal and the shift hunting. But it still feels like I'm towing when I'm not when I go up anything over 2000ft in elevation. We have one pass near us that is only from 3200ft to 7200ft and you feel it.

The 03-13 trucks with 4.56’s running 37” tires tend to prefer going all the way to 5.13 or 5.38. To get any lower than the stock 4.56 you have to swap rear axles to the 11.5”. The 6.4 engine has better low end torque that helps a lot.

Thanks still on rope about 37 I am very pleased with it on 35. Have looked at aev protacall, price was fair just hated to have to pay dealer also. Anybody offer any other ways to correct for tire size?

I've been running 37's for a year and a half. I keep kicking around changing gears but the truck drives fine. If I were towing I'd probably feel different. I'll probably regear when I go to 42's.

Yeah, I agree with a lot of what has been posted here. I have 37s on my 2016, got the Procal, and have not done the warning light reminder yet. Only other way I know of is with a diognostic tool like the Autel , lots of threads on the TPMS on Cummins forum.

On drivability, I have learned to live with the 37s on stock gears. most of the time dont notice anymore, it does lug a little more. Highway speeds its not much of a bother, big hills it may shift a little more. I havnt towed anything heavy yet, I did mine mostly for off road clearance and larger tire benefits.

It really comes down to what you are going to use the truck for mostly, I bought mine iwth the intentions of putting 37`s and a bunch of suspension upgrades to have some fun off road from time to time.....

Like Reloaderguy... I've had 37's on my truck for quite sometime (almost 3 yrs)... I only had the stock 33's on for a very short time before I put 35's on my 14 and then when I got the 15 they swapped the 35's over to it... I then put 37's on the 15 about 2 months later, so I have very little stock comparison... I will say the truck felt just fine with the 35's... Like others have said the truck felt more labored with the 37's and was always hunting for gears... I'm in Georgia so we are pretty flat and not much elevation where I'm at, so I don't deal with that... When the ProCal was finally released as a stand alone unit I jumped on it and I think the truck felt just like it did with the 35's... No more hunting around for gears all the time... I rarely tow anything more than a jet ski or pop up camper so no real experience with 37's and towing heavy, but the truck doesn't even notice the jet ski or camper... I don't feel like my truck is underpowered at all... If I had any complaint it would be the braking with the 37's... I've even added the Power Stop Extreme pads and still feel like the truck is sluggish on the braking side sometimes... Just my $.02... :cheers:

I should add that I’ve never towed my boat without the pro cal so my earlier post observations are with a pro cal on my truck.

Parked next to a guy today with a hemi 6.4 and 6 in lift and 37 tires... it does look good... made my pw look small

So if going for looks.. go for it...
