Brake pedal shakes violently on washboard road ?

Post by JD 500 » Mon Dec 18, 2017 6:26 pm

Was on a fairly nasty washboard road Saturday while pheasant hunting. Brake pedal shook so hard and loud I was a bit concerned.

That normal ?

This is my first solid axle fwiw.

Thanks

Never had it happen to mine, but then again I have not traveled many washboard roads with it.

Did you grab ahold of it and wiggle it to see if it is loose?

My second gen and this truck do it. I assume it's a Dodge thing

I did. Got under there with a flashlight. Isn't like there is a bolt loose, both pedals hang from a cast bracket
and there is so much stuff attached to the pedals I guess I'm not surprised now that I see it. There is a small amount of play side to side on the brake pedal.

I've been on washboards coming downhill in the mtns, but I guess this was the first on a flat dirt road. Coming downhill I would probably have my foot on the brake which would eliminate the shake.

Don't have that problem, and I'm on a lot of washboard roads.

If it shook when you applied the brakes, it's probably the ABS kicking in. Washboard confuses the crap out of the ABS computer.

Nope. Was on gas pedal on flat road, brake pedal was shaking side to side.

My '12 has always done that. Like you said, washboard roads especially, sometimes you hit just the right frequency or vibration and you can feel the whole pedal set rattle a bit.

I believe that is an issue that only affects the vehicles with the adjustable pedals option. The whole pedal set can shake around.
