Hawse Fairlead
Hawse Fairlead
I changed to synthetic winch cable from Custom Splice. They recommend not using roller fairleads (even new ones) with synthetic line. One of the members here posted pictures of his hawse fairlead he mounted using aluminum stock. I don't have access to aluminum so I used 1/4" angle iron. Here is what I came up with .
The fairlead is 10" double thick from Cusom Splice.
The thimble is a little wider than the opening in the bumber. The double thick fairlead sticks out far enough that the thimble works perfect.

Very cool! Simple is king most of the time.
If you want something a little more established I've got a Hawse prototype in the works for those individuals switching to synthetic line.

I'd like to run a splicer like the OP. This is sort of what I was talking about putting the haus further out of the bumper opening.DamageWagon wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2017 9:53 pmVery cool! Simple is king most of the time.

Re: Hawse Fairlead
Before I was planning on making the entire unit, but at this point I'm thinking it would probably be more cost effective for everyone if I just make some adapters that an aftermarket Hawse bolts to. Those Factor 55's with the Type III anodize are only $75, combine that with some adapters and you're golden.Reloaderguy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2017 12:42 amI'd like to run a splicer like the OP. If you do not mind me asking, what size and length rope did you put on your wagon Idaho rc. Brackets looked good. Thanks
Enjoying beautiful east TN
Re: Hawse Fairlead
I put 100' of 7/16" Custom Splice's Diamond line on it. The extra length fits just fine.

Re: Hawse Fairlead
No, I believe it's 7/16th in 100ft you can fit. I would do 80 of 1/2 and then do an extension which is useful anyway.
I just wish I could get a color other than blue and gray. Seems that's about it in the larger sizes. Really want ORANGE
