Diff guards

I know this has most likely been talked about before. But looking at diff guards for my 17 wagon. I have found complete replacement by aev and Dodge off road, seems the front aev may hit track bar with out lift. The Dodge off road are not in production yet for my front but some say quality is lacking, but price is a lot better than aev. In guards carlli seems to read well for front, but says power wagon may need mods to fit. Purple cranium makes a guard for both front and rear. Any thoughts on them and does any one else make guards or covers. Thanks

I have Purple Cranium front and rear, and they've held up beautifully over the two years I've had an abused them.

I just went through this. I installed them today. I decided on the Caril front guard and the Purple Cranium rear guard. I got the Purple Cranium rear guard because Caril doesn't make a rear guard.

The Caril guard is sweet.



It has a lip on the bottom of it that forms a small skid plate under the differential. Carli was thinking for sure!



Mine bolted right on. I talked with Carli and he said that there are variances in casting and it might require a small amount of grinding. I think they are talking about this part on the bottom of the differential.







The Purple Cranium rear cover bolted right up also.





I really like the Carli front guard and am glad I got it.

Same for me. Carli front guard, with no install issues, and Purple Cranium rear guard on a 16' PW.

Can you guys with the Carli front cover peel the sticker off if needed? I can't stand advertising labels all over product when I have it on my vehicle.

I ordered my White Knuckle Sliders without their logo. It might be an option with the diff guard, if you call.

I am still on fence between Carli front and purple cranium, but I agree not much of a sticker or skull person. Looks like the Carli you give up a little ground clearance, granted not much but if you have ever shaved a rear 14 bolt, you understand.

I can't speak to the purple cranium, but the Carli is extremely strong. I took a direct hit on mine at speed and it only scratched it. You only give up about 1/4" of ground clearance, the protection is worth it.

The logo on the Carli guard is just a decal. Came off clean and easy, I peeled it off soon as I opened mine up. Cheap insurance, Carli and Purple Cranium are both very stout. I went with Carli because i like the plate construction and the skid that runs under the housing.

I only got a few drops when I put my Carli on in the front.

Just a few drops from the front and back for me. Enough to put something under it but no measurable loss.

I wish there were a better solution for the rear diff. Personally im not crazy about the tubing style of the purple cranium. I'd love something similar to the Carli or maybe something like this? I've never run anything like this so no personal experience with how the U-bolts would hold up, but it would certainly help the rear slide over rocks instead of hanging up and dragging as much.

A rear diff guard similar to that picture will be in the works soon. To protect the lower lip of the cover, protect the yoke and make it easier to slide over things. I may also make it a two-piece unit with a more standard diff guard that bolts to the lower skid and to the covers bolt pattern.

The main priority with protecting the diffs is really to have something that secures the lower lip from peeling. Peeling the cover up and dumping your oil is the biggest risk on these axles. Protecting the cover from getting smashed into the ring gear is usually the main intention, and those guards tend to have a nice bolt ring anyways.

Awesome! I think a skid like that would be well worth the minimal ground clearance loss. Here's an old picture, but I'm working on removing the rear diff cover lol

I was just going to say, the rear lip isn't as exposed as the front, but geez, you managed it. LOL

I like the idea of the skid with yoke protection the most. Becuase when you get hung up, that is almost always the concern, no one wants to pull the drive shaft out of damage it. Knowing that if you are on a rock you can power off it, would be a huge PLUS.

Someone needs to start making the old Rock Crusher covers. 20 lbs of cast steel. Totally bomb prof. I've plowed, and cracked rocks with mine.

That won't fit. Look at your covers bolt pattern and compare.

No problem. Both the f/r on the '14+ trucks have a different pattern than the previous ones. That's why it's difficult to find something. The front carli and front/rear purple cranium are about all you're going to find. AEV also makes some that are very expensive and may have clearance issues with the trackbar.
