It depends on the design and use of the slider. For a white knuckle style where the kick out is normally the section that's hit, you might want .188 if you use it a lot. Otherwise .120 is fine. Most guys in Moab ran .120 and nobody had really bad damage. MikeKey smashed a few sections in with .120 wall but they're still good to go.

If the kickout angles up like the ones I made, I'd stick with .120 since it's the main tube that takes the hit.

.188"
only has a small increase in weight - and small increase in price - but higher resistance to denting and bending...

The thicker wall has virtually no resistance to bending, but is more resistance to denting. (resistance to bending is primarily diameter)

I went 0.120" I have 2" 0.120" on my 2nd gen for both sliders and roll cage and it's been rolled multiple times and rocker protection abused as much as possible.

Either is fine, and neither is likely noticeable. If it was a driveline, I would go 0.188" since dents throw the balance off. Who cares if you have a dent or two in the rocker protection.

Did you do the calculations for the bending of the sliders?

The bending stress will be inversely proportional to the "I" value for the cross section of pipe (Just like beams).
"I" = pi()/64 (OD**4 - ID**4)
and you can drop the pi()/64 since we are only interested in relative bending strength
The White Knuckle outer rub rails are 1-3/4" OD. Calculating the ratio for bending stress/strength:

((1.75)**4 - (1.374)**4) for the .188 DOM
------------------------------------------------
((1.75)**4 - (1.51)**4) for the .122 DOM

So the .188" sliders are 39.1% stronger in bending than the .120" sliders. :D

The denting is much harder to calculate... :excited:
