5.7 Hemi Tick
5.7 Hemi Tick
My 2005 has developed the infamous Hemi Tick over the past few months and it's driving me crazy. Anybody had this experience and found a fix for it? I'm running synthetic blend 5-20 and my truck has 79k miles on it. Thanks!

Re: 5.7 Hemi Tick
I run 5-30 in my 2005. Check the passenger exhaust manifold. The studs may have broken off at the rear most part. I had them all replaced on mine plus had the high temp silicone exhaust sealer put in as a gasket sealer a few years ago.

Check exhaust studs... i've broken them on both sides. Also have the shop check flatness of the manifolds; mine were warped which is what caused the studs to pop.

Re: 5.7 Hemi Tick
I'll check that out. It sounds more like lifters/valves to me than an exhaust leak but the exhaust is definitely an easier place to start.

Re: 5.7 Hemi Tick
Definitely check the exhaust manifold. I had the drivers side done a couple of month ago. Was quiet until the passenger side started about 2-3 weeks ago. Funny thing about warranty work......they knew it was going to happen on the passenger side, but until it makes noise, they wont fix it. I have a $100 deductible on my 100K warranty, so they got me by the Benjamins!
Re: 5.7 Hemi Tick
Mine is a 2012 with 60,000 on it and I have had both sides done already.

Studs or the hole manifold? Usually the manifold is fine and does not need to be replaced.Lazarus wrote:What manifolds are you guys replacing the originals with?

Re: 5.7 Hemi Tick
I might replace the whole manifolds. Anyone know of any good after market headers that bolt straight onto the stock exhaust setup?

Re: 5.7 Hemi Tick
The old Manifold is better than a new Manifold.
Because it already was hot. When my PW got broken Exhaustmanifold Studs i flattened the Surfaces from the Manifold.
I got it on a flat grinder.
I took the 2 middle flanges 3/10mm deeper than the two outer flanges. So the manifold itself helps the studs ond the back cylinders to hold the Flange tight to the Head.
Did this on Passenger Side and have to do it on Driver Side to...

Re: 5.7 Hemi Tick
I just did studs since it was under warranty. I am going to look at a set of JBA shorty headers if it happens again and it is on my dime.
