Rigid R2-46 Superspot

Post by Rodeoflyer » Fri Jul 28, 2017 8:48 pm

I'm about to pull the trigger on two of these for range. They're on sale for $209 each blowout at Rigid. I have four D-series driving H/L's in the stock fog locations which I can run on low setting on-road without blinding oncoming traffic and on high setting they spill massive light for off-road use but I'm looking for additional range. I'm looking at super-spots for range.

Thoughts on these?

I just watched this vid and pulled the trigger on 2 hyperspots. I'll have to post a vid of them and the D2's driving's on high setting.

He has $3k invested :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjdtwwwj_zg

I've never seen one of those in person, don't think they're very common. You'll have to be the guinea pig lol. I will say that I've had plenty of rigid lights on various vehicles over the years and found them all to be made well and work well. I've never been overly impressed with rigids distance as compared to HID or to Baja Design led spots, but I haven't seen any of their newer offerings either. As of a couple years ago there was no contest, but things keep advancing.

I'm happy to be the guinea pig for anything Rigid Industries. I've had their D2's dual driving lights in the foglight locations and they've been smacked with everything central Texas has to offer and still look as new. I'm sure with a little polishing compound like they would be as new.

If your a go fast person, you want distance, as well as close in light. My LED's (or the inexpensive ones) seem to be great for close in light. My Auxbeams are great for about 150 yds or so (just guessing here), Then they seem to stop. They are perfect for my use. I am not a go fast guy. They give me bright, even, 180* of white light with no hot spots. If they last me 5 yrs, i would be happy, for the $225 to my door that I spent. No water intrusion yet.

Rigid makes top quality stuff. You should be happy with anything they make.

Rigid R2-46 Superspot

Post by Rodeoflyer » Fri Jul 28, 2017 9:52 pm

I would estimate 50 yards of really good flood light with the Rigid D2 driving lights. The flood/driving lights have saved me from hitting a lot of wildlife. I hit a herd of javelina's a few months ago and took the truck to an alignment specialist today. He confirmed there was a bit of play in the ball joint where I hit the animals on the passenger side. There's so much wildlife on the road where I hunt I need flood and spot lighting.

That's exactly why i did the led lights as well, to avoid animal strikes while traveling. I realize I can't use the led light bar while on the road, but just the 4.5" ditch lights on the A-pillar make a HUGE difference on the edges/side of the road. They give me way more reaction time to a running animal. I do plan to use the ditch lights on the road (even though i know they are illegal as well.) 4200 lumens each. I will just shut them off for oncoming traffic. They are angled out to the sides pretty good, so i don't even think it would bother an oncoming vehicle until they got right up to me.

Yep, animals follow the lead and could care less about vehicles and light no matter how bright. If I'm in an area where I may damage my truck I need additional range.

55w hid's vs hyperspots and that's the combo.

Yup, they've come a long way lol. I had one of the first 50" e series years ago, and I don't think it put out that much light overall and certainly didn't have the throw distance. Nice! Sorry to hear about the hog strike, javelina are such a pain in the ass. They're a good excuse for thermal and night vision though lol.

I have the D2 toggles set for down=low mode and up=high mode left amber and right white light. I'll have to add two above for the hyperspots.

That's right, they're a non game animal. I would love to give it a try.

I'm waiting on archery season but night ops hog hunting with the full throttle would be interesting.

I have a night vision scope as well with an ir illuminator, but I haven't gotten an ir laser yet. It's on the short list of crap I need to spend money on though. Either an atpial of dbal is in my future.
