Why has AEV turned to such shit?

If it's about Power Wagons, all generations, this is where it'll go. This is the original PWR Forum Power Wagon Technical Discussion Section. And this includes everything that doesn’t fit in any one of the other categories related to the truck goes here!

Man, that AEV bumper doesn't hold up worth a shit when it comes to real wheeling either, look at this thing.

Oh you didn't here, that's because they chose to mix Carli parts with AEV parts. (claims random fanboys on FB)

On a serious note, this lead me to watching more of the series and somehow I ended up back on part 3 and that is not the first time they were having issues with the drive line coming apart.
The series is pretty good and worth the watch. It's obvious the AEV lift isn't designed for that level of use. I think DPP could have used DOR arms with eccentric deletes and a Thuren truss to avoid all of those problems. The relatively short wheelbase and 42's probably makes up for a lot of the lift's shortcomings. There are some good shots of the DPP rear bumper which looks killer.

The flares look like they're holding up pretty well though.

Yeah, I actually watched the whole series last night with the wife. Looks like there is one more video coming out.

I was talking to Marcus, and he was saying that bumper is better for strikes like against a deer, but not for repeated rock strikes like a plate bumper. It seems to show, because it looked a hell of a lot better in the first episode. the end caps with the lights really got abused.

That rear bumper is a slightly modified Mercenary A-Bomb High clearance bumper. I love that thing, and it takes some good hits. I just can't bring myself to pay the huge price tag on that thing ($2500.00 USD) :jawdrop: Knowing that it would still need to be tweaked for my truck. Plus, no recovery points and you'd need to come up with a method to mount your trailer hitch plug or ditch it.

I originally kept trying to talk Marcus into building that for my truck. It never happened. :(

A $99.00 switch holder that doesn't include switches or harness and has a GIANT GAP at the bottom of it.

I kind of want one but kind of don't. Eventually I'll do OBA and then I'll need more switches.

LOL, yeah sorry I never changed my signature! And somehow I missed how this thread progressed!

Yes, my current truck is a 2017 PW. So far, towing my boat is a cinch, but it's only about 5,000 lbs loaded with gas and stuff. When I tow my jeep, the trailer/jeep combo weighs about 7700 LBS, plus I carry a lot of gear so I'm pushing the payload limits a bit. My 2013 Power Wagon actually did quite well, but it did have the leaf springs, not the coils. I'll try the stock setup once on a short trip out to Corral Canyon, (only about 40 miles or so) and see how it does. I don't want to tow with a marginal rig all the way to Moab or even Rubicon Trail though. I think the WD hitch may be good enough. We'll see after my Bronco Peak (Corral Canyon) trip.

Thanks for the feedback all.

You'll need a WD hitch, if that isn't enough or not appropriate for the type of trailer you'll need airbags. I recommend the Airlift 5000 ultimate with Daystar craddles (no spacer). There is a large thread with all the details. The rear springs are just a bit soft for towing but nice for driving and offroad. Its a good compromise. Wouldn't want super stiff springs either way. DOR steering brace also tightens up the steering for towing also. Tows great! Just needs a little suspension help. My travel trailer is like 8500lbs loaded and it does fine.
