AEV Onyx Black Saltas on a 15

Post by israelstanage » Thu Jul 06, 2017 8:39 pm

Had them installed before I got my next set of tires so I could see if 37s would fit. I think I will clear 37x12.5 RTs just fine. Almost went the Katla route, but I am very happy with my choice. Tires stick out a bit more, but not obnoxiously so.

The saltas don't seem to be near as popular as the Katlas, but they look great in person.

How much further would you say they stick out? Still covered by the flares?

The wheels look great. I am VERY interested in your review after you put 37s on.

Stock wheels when I got my RTs. I would guesstimate the saltas put them .75 - 1 inch wider.

The saltas have an offset of 27mm and are an 8.5 inch wide wheel.

Those are really sharp looking wheels! I like how simple (and easy to clean) the stockers are, but those AEVs sure are pretty. I think that's the only non beadlock aftermarket wheel I'd consider putting on the truck. They get pushed out just the right amount, I'd be really interested to see how the new offset works when you go to the bigger 37. Might be just get them off the radius arms but not so much into the back of the fender?

This is exactly my plan. AEV wheels and 37s. The AEV wheels are the only ones I have found that are near the +18 to +25mm offset recommendation of Thuren. Eagerly awaiting your install of 37s to see how they fit.

I would really like to get ahold of the AEV high marker flares to go with a custom front bumper that lined up with them over some 37s on AEV wheels. :-)

Very nice, sir. Agreed on Katla vs Salta, I think this is the better looking wheel. I'll be getting a set of these when it's time for new tires on my truck but the factory Duratracs are still going.

As a frame of reference for the above wheels and tires. 17x9 +18 37x12.5

The driver's side front and passenger side rear stick out approximately .75" further with stock suspension.

Heres a link to a guy who posted up a few pics of his newer PW with the Saltas and 37x13.5 STT Pros (page 5). Stock suspension. Claims only slight rub at full lock on sway bar (hard to believe).

That's not a very big tire for a 37x13.5 MT, it might be .5" wider than a Toyo RT 37x12.5.

Good to know. I like the idea of the E rated tire (which is the 13.5" wide one, 12.5" wide is D rated), but I dont really want a tire that wide.

I just looked them up in Cooper's website (as much as you can trust the stats, anyway). The 12.5" wide one is apparently 13" wide, and the 13.5" wide one is apparently 13.3" wide.

Truck looks great!! Thanks for Posting up. I am in between these, and a few other wheels at the moment. Ive seen them with different 37`s on other sites, Toyos, ect. I have Ridge Grapplers in a 37, so if I go this route ill post up any issues. I like the Saltas better myself as well. Also looking at Raceline Avengers, TR Beadlocks , or I may Powder Coat the stock rims, still kicking it around. a few weeks away.....

Beware the Toyo MT width in 37's. The 37x12.5 is 12.5 wide, but the 37x13.5 is 14.2 or 14.4 wide.

Should I just plan the tire carrier to clear 40's? Never hurts to plan ahead.

I personally LOVE the Saltas!!!! Great choice! I really don't like the Katlas as much. I wish they would make Saltas for 40s, in addition to the Katlas. I very nearly bought Saltas for my off-road wheels (still 37s but consiserably more aggressive than my daily tires) I ended up going with cheapo steelies so I can beat them back into shape if I bend their edges. You've got a great looking truck and made a great wheel choice!!!!!

Appreciate it RAM4ROKS.

FYI, I also had my rear pads/rotors replaced while they were swapping out my wheels. Pads were at 3mm. This is my first 3/4 ton, but 87,000 miles seems like a respectable distance for the factory pads. Fronts are still good. When the old rotors were removed we discovered the axle seals on either side were leaking. The leaks were relatively small and had never dripped or left a stain at any point, so if I hadn't had purchased new wheels and had my brakes checked, I never would have known. Chrysler is fixing it under my powertrain warranty, which is nice, but not as nice as not having leaks.

Moral of the story: give your wagon a good once over as your warranty expiration nears.
