Warranty Being Denied

Post by StubbleJumper » Tue Jun 27, 2017 8:51 pm

Hey everyone, so picked up my 2017 PW on June 2, a Friday. On Monday the 5th I had 3m put on to help protect it. The next weekend I took it out on a road trip to show the folks the new wheels.

My dad being a gear head was giving it a go over when he noticed 3 out of the 5 clearance lights had moisture in them. So being away from home we put a little silicone on there as we didn't want any more water to get in. I then precede to drive home that weekend and make an appointment for the truck to get looked at.

The truck went in last Monday to get assessed. They tell me they won't fix the lights because I have put silicone on the screws. I tell them I wouldn't have had to if the lights were properly sealed. So I have emailed and talked on the phone with Chrysler Canada about the issue.

Just wondering if anyone has a) dealt with moisture in the lights b) dealt with warranty issues at the dealer. Any help with either subject would be appreciated.

What a crock of sh!t. Typical dealer crap right there.

I have never checked mine, I guess. Next time I'm up there waxing the roof I will give it a looksie.

Just remembered. They replaced all the lens and gaskets about 1 year after I bought the PW because of moisture in one lens.

Yeah not to happy with the local dealer, that's why I contacted Chrysler Canada. Just a piss off when a guy spends his money on a truck and something simple like this takes away from the experience.

Going back to the early 3Gs (like Rusty's), the clearance light leaks seemed to be a pretty prevalent problem, and a lot of them were replaced /repaired under warranty, at least according to the chat on DodgeTalk. As I recall, the backyard fix was to pull the lenses and seal around the base before screwing them back down. Remind the Chrysler rep of that. I think your dealer is hosing you, and I would have already gone ballistic about that kind of treatment on a truck that is less than a month old.

And as stupid as this is, if it's messed up and you want a warranty fix, let it be until the dealer looks at it. Any attempts by you to fix it before bringing it to the dealer can and will be used against you at the service writer's desk.

Mine don't leak (yet). Not a big fan of them for that very reason though. From reading here it seems like the dealers in Canada are pricks (for lack of a better term.)

I've had pretty good service from the dealer I use and that's why I keep buying from them. Sometimes it takes them a while to figure out some intermittent electrical gremlins, but they never just tell me to get lost.

The light on the drivers side of my 13 holds water. Haven't ever opened it to drain it honestly, but I know I should...

No warranty on my truck, so when I do finally fix it, plenty of clear silicone will be going in it...

Peel the silicone off and take it to another dealer and don't tell them about the warranty denial and I bet they will fix it, I had the same issues with my 07 when it was new and had the lights were replaced.

It seems like many PW owners are do it yourself guys, myself included, you have to be careful with a new truck under the 3/36 warranty, everything is fixed for free so take it to the dealer first.

Once you mess with something they start denying warranty claims because non-factory modifications were made. It then becomes a huge pain to deal with and can end up costing more time and money so fight the urge to fix it yourself.

Called the dealer I bought the truck from, they are going to replace the lights under warranty. Just means a 2 hour drive there, and back. Learned my lesson, next time straight to the dealer.

Like was posted, definitely a "do it yourself" kind of guy, just wanted to protect my truck. Will know for next time.

The Furd dealers are screwing themselves. My buddy who just bought a Tunda TuRD Pro looked at Rapturds and was completely put off by the dealer attitudes and pricing policy. This guy makes tons of money and could easily write a check for a new Rapturd, but he walked away and went back to Toyota. He wanted a PW but it won't fit his garage.

That's the reason I don't have taller tires on my trucks and I can't afford a new garage. :thppt:

Washing the mud off the PW from Rausch Creek yesterday and today. Found 2 of the lens have small cracks in them, with moisture. So I'm going to replace all 5.

It dripped on the wife is how I found out about it. The cracks in the lens are at the rear screw hole, leading to the rear edge of the lens. The screws are not that tight either.
