I didn't think to take a picture , I was more concerned with cleaning it up. I noticed a fair amount of white flakes on my hood insulation on the left and right sides and back edge. It looked like battery acid, so I sprayed battery cleaner on a piece of scrap and dropped some flakes in the cleaner. Sure enough, it turned yellow to red to say it detected acid. I vacuumed up the larger flakes off of the insulation. I then mixed up baking soda and water and scrubbed the insulation to get the remainder. I can see where some of it dripped off of the insulation, and I cleaned that up as well. Everything cleaned up well without any visible signs of damage. In fact, you can't even tell at this point.
Has any one seen this before? The only possible thing I can think of is I worked the battery hard with the winch pulling it in one day. The truck really dipped idle wise pulling the last 15 or so feet. It almost makes me want to grab an AGM battery. The puzzling thing is... there isn't any indication that it actually came from the battery vents of anything coming from that area.

Beats me. Living where I do, I'd just think it was road salt.

It's fire retardant seeping out. This is a pretty big complaint and FCA warranties it. If it gets worse contact your dealer. There is a long thread on CF discussing the problem.

Thank you very much for that! If it returns at least I will have something to reference.Reloaderguy wrote:It's fire retardant seeping out. This is a pretty big complaint and FCA warranties it. If it gets worse contact your dealer. There is a long thread on CF discussing the problem.
