Thuren 1/2'' lift coils

Post by Rodeoflyer » Sun Jun 11, 2017 2:32 pm

I know it's out of the ordinary because everyone wants max lift but I just ordered the Thuren .5'' coils for PW along with the king steering stabilizer. I've had the truxx 1.5'' a few months and feel it's a little too level if not negative level when I have a load in the bed. I want the minor rake back.

I doubt anyone has run these yet. If so..thoughts?

I run them. They're perfect for me, any more lift and I'd be bro-leaned out with a bottle of water in the bed (stock rear coils). Install was super easy, not as much has to be disconnected as the 1.5" lift. They eliminate most of the bow and seem to articulate better. Ride is a hair stiffer over chatter bumps IMO but consistent and smooth through bigger holes.

That's what I wanted to hear. I want just a bit of lift in the front and retain about 1" of rake. These should be perfect. Thanks.

I'm lost... which ones are the 1/2" lift coils?

Thuren has 1/2" list front coils of 1.5" front coils, basically he offers both for those that want stock type rake, and those that want to level truck. Its on his PW full kits you can pick which one when you build your system.

That's how they are actually labeled on his site. But over here everyone calls them 3 inch coils and stuff, which always throws me for a loop. I assume 3 inches over stock 2500 which is level. And so 1/2 inch is actually 2.5 over stock 2500. Guessing.

I'll be curious to see how these work out for you. I might run this setup myself. :cheers:

@2011TXPowerwagon - well they sure look a lot alike :) .

@mikekey - yeah I watched your thread on 2014+ suspension options and finally drew the conclusion I didn't want to be leveled. For every inch you level the front you have to deal with that much weight transfer on the rear and want to retain a slight rake.

And boy, thuren doesn't play around with processing and shipping. I think the items are already on the truck!

Yea, that was the real dilemma I think guys without trailers weren't getting. When you add 980lbs to the rear of your truck, squat is going to happen. And with a level, getting your truck back to level with a weight distributing hitch becomes harder.

And with the softer Powerwagon front springs, trailer hitch weight lifts the front more than on a standard 3/4 ton Ram. With the aftermarket - even softer springs, the front end will lift even farther (without a weight distributing hitch). ;)

Bingo. So it's a dilemma for sure. :chug:

I have no experience towing or loading the bed of my 2016 Laramie PW. In August I will get a taste of my future plans to tow a Turtleback off-road trailer that probably maxes out around 2k lbs and around 300 lbs tongue weight. With that kind of weight do you think I would have significant squat on stock springs on the rear? I too am trying to decide on .5" or 1.5" Thuren coils in the front.

I doubt you'll have much if any real squat with something that lite. You shouldn't have to worry much anyways. But if you start loading up the bed with additional camping gear, you might. :cheers:

I don't tow much but do haul considerable weight in the bed. I'll haul 20-50# bags of feed near the end of the bed along with probably another 300#'s near the cab and the truck hauls it easily albeit a bit nose high on the stock springs. I think you'll be fine.
