Duratracs have to go, need options.

I have always heard the wheel should be half the diameter of the tire for the best compromise.

35/2 = 17.50 so that makes sense. And 37 would equal and 18 inch wheel. Interesting.

I thought so too. The sidewall on 37x17 is pretty meaty already. Any bigger it would be pushing the limits of good taste and handling :) I guess this means that 20" full beadlocks are a go for 40s

I've come to prefer 10" of sidewall as the best all around performer. 35's on 15's 37's on 17's etc. bigger and you get mushy handling and smaller gets you broken parts

The 42" Maxxis are overkill, Mike.... I'll take a set of race spec 40/R17 Toyo RT

100% agree, those 40s give me a warm fuzzy feeling... just to further detail this, anyone else love the new tire smell as much as I do? Wish I could get that in an air freshener

You could have come and inhaled the inside of my garage. I was just able to get the smell out of there last week.

Absolutely! Fresh tire is the best, followed closely by race gas!

Bikes on race gas is nice too. The shop I used to work at ran VP c16 in the trucks, brought a tear to your eye... literally! Couldn't help but think of the Tommy boy has station scene around those things LOL!

Blew another Duratrac. The OEM have to be different then the aftermarket?? I had two sets of aftewrmarket ones on a heavier vehicle I drove harder and never had a tire failure.

Right now , leaning towards BFGs as after the Pro Comp (Cooper) debacle, I don't need any of those (tore a sidewall every trip until I swapped to BFG Krawlers.) A coworker has 35" Toyo RTs on his F350 and hates them. I need the snowflake for chain laws...

For the second gen, I am considering Pitbulls or Maxxis 42"

Wonder why your coworker hates his RT's? I've heard lots of good things about those tires, despite not having them myself.

Hard to go wrong with BFG's though. Pretty popular tire.

Strange about your coworker, I have the rt's on my full size lifted van and they've been great. I've attributed a lot of its Offroad prowess to those tires. 2wd and limited slip have gotten that thing amazing places

My BFG's haven't let me down. Towing, Exploring and even long highway trips, they have kicked ass.

The RTs he said wandered a lot, and weren't that good on snow and ice until he siped them. 35"x12.5R18 on F-350 diesel. (under 30k miles). Could just be a Ford thing.

Thanks for the replies, I am going to run until the rear two are pretty bald (or another flat) and then go to new tires.

I have 315-70-17 D KO2's on my diesel. Had them for about 3 years now and do plenty of rough off pavement travel for search and rescue and recreational use. I often tow a 3500+ camping trailer. The tires work well for what I do, never had them in snow since I live in central AZ. Any tire will pick up cactus, I've pulled several thorns out of the sidewalls with no adverse effect, the tires do have a noticeable amount of chunking . I run them at 35psi front and 32 rear unless towing or interstate driving when I put them up to the max at 55psi. Off road I don't go below 25psi, with open diff's I have not got stuck even in super slick snail snot clay during the monsoons.

I spoke with someone who hates his RTs. We talked for a while as it was a friend of a friend. He had no clue about air pressure management. Ran them at 65 PSI all the time. So in snow they slip, mud they spun, etc. I run like 48/43 and that is probably too high when not towing.
