Would going to 305s be too small of a difference?

Going to get some new shoes. Not too happy with anything about the Duratracs.
Seems the Toyo AT2 get some good reviews so Im going to give them a shot.
Was originally thinking 35s, but the PW is my DD. I dont want to sacrifice TOO much in the way of performance, towing, and of course Mpg's.
The 305s seem like a good compromise, but not sure if its enough of a difference to even justify. Of course, the other option is the 285/75/17. Both are basically 1" larger than stock.
Thoughts?
Btw, stock suspension. Might level in the future. Either way, shouldnt matter cuz all sizes Im considering should fit no problem. Just thought Id mention it.
Thanks for your recomendations.

I have 285/75/17 Toyo A/T II's on my truck and I feel like it was a good size for what I do. Naturally the 12 year old inside of me wanted 37's, but for now I'm happy with my choice.

I'm still a 12 y/o :thppt:

I dont think you can go wrong either way. Your truck will do fine with 35s, I noticed a much bigger difference moving to 37s.

37's may be too big, 305's are a difference w/o a distinction, 35's (or slightly smaller 315's) are probably the sweet spot. If my PW was my DD, I'd have gone with 35's instead of 37's....or 37" BFG KM2's, which apparently measure out to 35".

This is what I did... 37 km2 measured on the truck ~35.25"

I have Toyo MTs in 285/75/17 and love them, but now that the truck has some lift they look small. They are still a big tire and do very well. I will go 35's next time.

If you really want 37's, the BFG KO2 is a good compromise because it measures small and is a lightweight tire, but still says 37" on the side

I definitely dont want 37s.
No intention of ever going to 37s.

Well, then the tire sizes you are questioning are basically all very close. 35's/315's being a smidge bigger/wider than the 305's, and 285/75's being basically the same height but skinnier. What is your preference for aesthetics... the pizza slicer look or more traditional? One downfall with the 285/75/17 is tire selection... there just are not many manufacturers making that size.

Personally, for a mainly DD I think the 285/75's make more sense, especially if you are in snow country. I kinda like that tall skinny look, too.

MikeKey has the 35" Toyo AT2 extremes, maybe he will chime in about those.

This is the same tire dilemma I am having. Just waiting to hear back from someone about buying my duratracs from me for his jeep. The cost and selection between these sizes make it so hard to decide.

The 305/65-17 are close to a 33x11.5x17 and 305/70-17 are 34x12x17 so there is not a huge difference between those and 35's. I feel that 35's are the best all around size for a PW, especially with stock suspension, there won't be any significant loss in performance.

Well, technically speaking a 305/70/17 and 305/65/17 should be the same width, just different height (33.8x12 and 32.6x12 respectively). But of course, actual tire sizes always vary...

I switched out my duratracs for the 305/70/17 toyo at about 6 months ago and have no regrets. They run much smoother down the road and the traction in everything from mud to snow to dry dirt has been great. Also like the looks as they make the wheel wells look fuller.

Your correct both 305's would be the same width about 12 inches, I must have had some temporary insanity...

OP here...
Decided to go with 35s.
Finally saw a PW locally with 35s and I agree, it looks like the perfect size.
Plus, I might level at some point, so the 35s make sense.
Goin with Toyo AT2 as stated earlier.
Thnx for the suggestions.

Ill probly just start a new thread for this, but how do I calculate the difference for the speedo, mpg, etc that will occur from going stock to the 35s?
Math has never been my strong suit...lol.

Nice link...thnx.
Will be off .07%.
So when speedo reads 10, actually going 10.7.
If reads 100, will actually be going 107.
I assume that goes the same for odometer correct?
Seems self explanatory, but just want to make sure Im thinking about this correctly.

Btw, dont think Ill ever go 100...lol. Just easier to calculate.

.07% would be 10.007mph actual. I don't think your speedometer is that accurate.

His math calculations were actually correct, but it is 7%, not .07%.
