Frames

Post by waldo » Sun Mar 19, 2017 8:18 am

I keep reading here and there that the PW has a different frame, but I've also read where it has the same frame as the 2500HD.

Other than some holes and weldments for skid plates and such, what's the truth?

Has to be generally the same frame. I would guess it would have a different part number due to some slightly different hole etc, but I bet either would work for either application with minor modifications. (2500 to Power Wagon). IE, I am sure a Cummins, G56, etc would be a bolt in, except for anything obvious (cutting the floorpan for the transmission shifter, winch interferes with intercooler).

Just a pure guess, but the economics wouldn't work for Daimler if they had to do a create new frame.

And, what would be the point of creating a new/different frame? They would essentially end up being the same in the end.

They are the same frame. You are correct, the only differences are maybe a few holes and skid plate mounts.

I thought I read on this very site that it was the same, but had additional re-enforcement.

A few different holes and weldments, but I'm sure the structural members are the same as for a normal Hemi or Cummins 2500 crew 6'4" box. For example, the front track bar frame side mount is different, and that is a weldment.

It's a half ton frame, that's why the capacity is so low.

Frame was identical to the 2500 in all the 3rd gens. Had different part numbers for mounting points for additional protection and accessories. I have one in my yard here.

It's a 2500HD base frame.

They are the same for all intents & purposes. But they used to have different part #'s technically speaking. Not sure on the 2017's. Like the others have said, same frame, just some added/different holes for all the Power Wagon goodies. No big mystery here.

Chrysler is to cheap to actually make a different Frame for the pw. But they want you to think they did
