Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
That's an excellent question. If the answer is yes I might actually consider leveling mine...

No test with any weight yet, but with no load and 50psi in the bags the rear is 2.5” higher than the front (with the 1.5” leveling kit). I dont think I will really have any issues keeping the truck level without the bag spacer.

Good to hear that bags are able to solve the issue for the guy looking for a level truck loaded or unloaded.

I have a much better solution than using bags.
Removable gas shock. Install when towing, pressurize, and drive. Remove when done towing, just release pressure then remove pins. Boom, bang done. All you need is a power tank with some nitrogen. Not too terrible. Way better ride and handling then sticking two bricks between the frame and axle.

Air shock, air bags... arnt they serving pretty much the same purpose, pretty much the same way? Why are they better (other than they are gone when not needed)?

Are you referring to airbags as bricks?
My bags ride perfectly fine when aired up for towing, and you cant tell they are there when Im not towing.
In my mind bags are without a doubt less work/trouble than those nitrogen shocks would be. And probably work just as good.

One of the reasons I bagged my truck was that it was riding lower on the right when loaded for a trip. Right side has both house batteries, plus both water tanks, plus a five-foot stainless and aluminum drawer that is typically filled with heavy stuff. My bags can be aired up independently of each other, so I can level the truck side-to-side after it's loaded.Good to hear that bags are able to solve the issue for the guy looking for a level truck loaded or unloaded.

IMHO, a shock needs to be pinch/torqued in it's mount or it will rattle and eventually wallow out the mount or bushing or pin. The softest metal will be the first to fail, it's just a matter of time.MikeKey wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2017 2:23 pmI have a much better solution than using bags.

I wish I would have installed bags the day I brought my truck home. Rides so much better under any kind of load. With on board air, it's easy to adjust to the exact ride your load requires. For anyone that tows/hauls very often, bags/cradles are a no-brainer.
Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
So is drilling and tapping the bumpstop pad the best way to mount the daystars? 3/8" tap?

That is the only way that I saw how to do it. The other idea would be to actually mount them to the bottom of the bag (the bags have bolts holes in them), but I’m not sure if that would possibly cause a slapping sound or not at times.

I mounted the cradles on the bottom bracket that came with my bags. Required no drilling; just had to pick up some shorter bolts and do a bit of grinding.

Just as a follow up. I took my truck through Moab with this install and my articulation was just fine with 0 PSI. I'm not even sure i ever hit the internal jounce or if I did it was muuuch softer and not jarring at all. I do have boogie bump stops in front.

I run boss air bags with day star craddles. No air empty and 15 to 20 # towing. Great set up with no rattle so far.

The one thing i really like about the Airlifts is they dont have extra hardware at the top. It's a flat plate so you don't loose as much up travel. The boss and the firestone both seem to have unnecessary height to their bracketry.

Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
Hi guys, just looking to see how your setup is holding up? Are the bags showing any abnormal wear ? I see you have the upper plates with the air fittings to the outside of the frame rail, do they look like they could be installed with the fitting to the inside? I have just skimmed thru the post and excuse my ignorance if this is already covered , what was the final verdict on the spacer..use it or not? I am not a stranger to using airbags on my truck as I had the Firestone kit on my 2006 2500 and they were the best thing I did for leveling the truck when pulling a bumper hitch trailer. Thanks for the feedback .
Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
Don't use the spacer. You 100% don't need it. Fitting placement is fine though I did end up upgrading the actual fittings because one sprung a leak. About 5 minutes of work and 10 bucks. No issues since and i kept the working valve as a spare. It's a solid setup. Only thing i haven't done is onboard air but with 0 PSI min bags I just don't need it.

I guess I should also mention the original install I was on stock rear springs. Then stock rear springs with a 1 inch Traxada spacer in the rear. Then I went to full Thuren Springs (kept Traxada 1 inch rear spacer) and King 3.0/2.5 shocks with sway bar extensions. Airbag install works fine in all configurations.

Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
Yea I took the spacer out per Tankerzak’s recommendation and everything still works great. And I gained back the inch of compression, which was a noticeable loss.
Abnormal wear? Pffffff, guess I would have to look them over because I never really have. I will say, the trip up to the UP and back last week, when I got home and went to let the air out of the bags, the drivers side was already empty. So i may have a slow leak at a fitting.

I'd bet money it's your fitting. Toss some water on the fitting area and look for bubbles. Same thing happened to me. They shouldn't loose air except for ambient temp adjustment which can be pretty significant because of small volume size.olyelr wrote:Yea I took the spacer out per Tankerzak’s recommendation and everything still works great. Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
I am looking to add a Four Wheel Camper Hawk to the bed of my truck for an upcoming trip. It weighs right at 1000lbs. Has anyone run that kind of payload with the factory rear suspension setup and if so how badly did it sag? I am wondering if I should bother with the Airlift bag setup for a payload capacity well within the factory limits or will that kind of weight compress the rear substantially? I know the benefits of airbags for towing, but would it beneficial for that kind of payload as well?
Also, where have you all found to have the best price to buy the Airlift bags and Daystar cradles?

I would definitely consider bags with that setup. Not only is that a good amount of weight, but its all up high. I would guess it would end up feeling very rocky side to side without bags.Tejas wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 11:20 amI am looking to add a Four Wheel Camper Hawk to the bed of my truck for an upcoming trip. Theres a reason there is a sticker on the glove box of the truck when you buy it that states to not put a camper in the bed of a power wagon.
