Cool little blurb about our winches on Warn's site!

If it's about Power Wagons, all generations, this is where it'll go. This is the original PWR Forum Power Wagon Technical Discussion Section. And this includes everything that doesn’t fit in any one of the other categories related to the truck goes here!

I always thought the winch was based on the m15000?

Yes! Notice the wording though:
Per Chrysler's specs, the Power Wagon winch features a 12,000 lb. capacity, similar to a WARN M12000.
So says Chrysler about capacity. (meaning construction (design basis of the winch) is not mentioned at all)

Per Chrysler's specs, the Power Wagon winch features a 12,000 lb. capacity, similar to a WARN M12000. But the Power Wagon winch's drum rotates the opposite direction, and a different control box that includes a low-voltage interrupt (LVI) that'll halt the winch if the vehicle's voltage drops. In addition, this winch comes loaded with 90' of 7/16" of wire rope vs. 125' of 3/8" line on a WARN M12000.

Obviously it is carefully written, it is very clever in that they never actually say what winch build it is based off. But, if you look at all the technical specifications, our winches are very clearly a reverse rotation variant of an M15000.

My winch drum doesn't rotate in the opposite direction, the winch is turn around backwards.

Just guessing but maybe that's why FCA asked for them to rotate the other way so that it could be mounted that way for fitment purposes?

I think that was true on third gens. On fourth gens the winch is turned around and pulls from the top of the drum. If you take the winch out you can mount it in conventional winch bumpers. If the winch rotated backwards you would need to rewire the motor and replace the clutch assembly.

All the replacement parts come from the M1500. The winch is a M1500 that Dodge lawyers derated to 12000 lbs for liability. :zombie:

"We'll tell them it's a 12,000 pounder, that way they won't try to yank any tree stumps or anything like that."

"Doesn't matter, Bill, some idiot is still gonna have his truck floating above the ground, winch line yanking on one side and an anchor strap on the other."

"Yeah but then he's over GVWR and we aren't liable."

I know the winch's details have been beaten to death, LOL! It's just cool little blurb I came across while looking to buy a new cable since mine is a bit kinked.

LOL- very true.

Question though, how long is the cable on our winch again?

I'm going to resurrect this thread and then kill it for good.

The PW winch is a slightly modified M15000 mounted on a bracket rated for 12,000lbs. Hence the 12,000lb rating.
