The rear upper exhaust manifold stud is a problem child for most any 5.7's.

Unbelievable. Same thing on my 2005 Nissan Titan at maybe 180K as well. Started having engine performance issues, check engine lights even the damn cruise control would conch out. I thought maybe fuel pump.(figured cruise control was another issue) When the shop told me it was cracked exhaust manifolds I told them they were crazy. Never had a glitch since. I guess its all the modern sensors that start getting bad readings somehow with the back pressure loss?

What's funny is we had to replace the same bolts on our 2010 1500 5.7 Hemi. And after we had them replaced, about I'd say 11 months later they'd backed out again.

I believe it’s two things going on that cause issues when the manifold leaks. One is that the oxygen sensors think it is running lean and it overfuels, this wasting fuel and fouling the plugs faster. Second it loses backpressure which seems to be very important for scavenging on the Hemi.

I used a few new factory exhaust bolts but I’m switching everything to Class 10.9 hardware that reaches deeper in the bore than the stock stuff. I’m hoping the hardware is a higher quality than what came on the truck. I used red loctite 273 on the hardware. We will see how that lasts, it’s onky rated to 450f if I recall but that’s the highest loctite offers that I found.
