2016 trans chirp when cold.

Post by waldo » Sun Oct 02, 2016 1:37 pm

Anyone else? Sounds like a belt, but I had the wife get in and put it in drive while I was under it and it sounds like it's coming from the trans or torque converter.

Same noise in drive or reverse, nothing in park.

Dealer changed out the serp belt, but that's not it. They couldn't hear it because it was still warm when they checked.

My 09 with 545rfe did that for years with no problems. I suspect it was the torque converter but I don't actually know.

My 2010 is doing it on hard shifts but only if I have my foot in it. Been doing it for about 5000 miles now and it's definitely coming from the trans. It doesn't seem to slip or anything but gives a loud chirp from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I'm hoping it's not the start of a big problem.

I have a similar noise which is louder when cold but is present all the time. Mostly in 5th 6th gear most noticeable at 55 mph light throttle. See my post noise in 66rfe transmission. Dealer trans guy says normal yet it has gotten worse with higher miles, 17000, and i can hear it occasionally in lower gears at shift point which just started recently. Dealer opened "star case" with Chrysler and they r no help. I'm curious if your concern is the same as mine.

I also have this noise..... Jump into truck, start it up, shift into drive, hear chirp in transmission.

It appears I have all the wonky 66rfe noises. The cruising along at 55-60mph whistle noise that goes away with a little upward pressure on the gear shift lever and the start up chirp when placed in drive. Kinda glad i'm not alone on this.

Mine chirps when the traction control kicks in. No other times, yet...

My '16 makes a 'warbling sound' when I'm around 20 km/h and light throttle applied. Anyone else notice this?
