Hahahahaha. I being serious though! I have used fluid film for years on realy small jobs and have always been blown away with how strong the odor is. I can not even imagine how strong smelling a fully coated vehicle is!

It goes away after a while. The smell, well, you either like it or you don't. If it can keep my truck from rusting away, i'm good with it.

So 65plymouth, are you satisfied with the fluid film, or would you go back to krown?

Re: Krown...Rust Check.... Fluid Film
I also fluid filmed the heck out of the under body of my power wagon. Used like 12 cans, including the 360 degree nozzle/hose which is a must. You won't be able to do a proper job without it. You do get awful messy, so dress appropriately. My truck stunk for a good week or two but then you cannot smell it anymore.

Re: Krown...Rust Check.... Fluid Film
Mine still smells.. BUT, I have not driven in any rain yet. I think as soon as the under body gets wet, the smell will dissipate. Fluid Film does have a strong odor. Not a good smell, but not a bad smell either IMO. The dog seems to like the FF and actually licked my rear axle!olyelr wrote:So 65plymouth, are you satisfied with the fluid film, or would you go back to krown?
Time will tell. I like how the fluid film went on, but still think the Krown may creep/drip a bit more allowing it to get into more cracks and crevices.. Krown also does not have the smell that fluid film does. The Krown stuff smells, just not as pronounced as the FF.
When sprayed heavy, Fluid Film has a more waxy texture to it (that is the only way I can explain it). Krown seems to be more like oil. The nearest Krown shop is about 70 miles from me (One in Sarnia, ON or Lexington, MI). Because I am now confident doing this myself with the kit from Kellsport, I will probably just stick with a yearly FF application with touch up's in the spring rather than pay the $185.00 (or whatever it is now) and drive 60 miles to the Krown shop.
6 of one, half dozen of the other as far as I am concerned. Something is definitely better than nothing. In hindsight, I should have waited a month to do the application. I wanted to do it when the truck was still clean underneath and not full of mud and dirt, but I just ordered a set of LED fog pods to replace my OEM fogs. Should be fun working on the greasy truck!! lol. Not super invasive work so I am sure a quick wipe down of the area will be fine and allow me to install the new LEDs without getting covered in FF.

I think im gonna get that flyid film kit with the spray gun and wands and hit up all the hidden body panel areas heavily. Then, just before winter hits and the salt starts flying, soak the living shet outa the underside of the truck.

Do you use fluid film or something comparable?TwinStick wrote:Well, mine is an 08' & has zero body rust. Been in the salt every winter.
3rd gen's don't seem to rot out as easy as the 2nd gen's, but I have definitely seen my share of rusted out box sides on the 3rd gens. I dont want to have to find out where the 4th gens are going to rot out, at least on my truck anyway .

Fluid Film. If you drive on sand, not sure i would use FFilm. It does attract dirt/dust etc... I do not regret using it at all. It does affect some rubber though. The rubber trim on bottom of my doors is wrinkled up from it.

Hmmm. I think I would rather replace rubber trim every 5 years then have to replace rusted body panels
Im in sand occasionally. I think when spring time comes, I will just clean the living hell out of the undercarriage and move on for the summer... then coat again before winter.

I picked up a can yesterday to help protect the winch cable. The odor did surprise me, but wasn't that bad.... That was until I decided to spray the taped holes under the cab and pinch welds this morning and the smell is now inside the cab I won't dare touch my doors unless I can find something better smelling which is a shame because I remember what happened to my 2nd gen. Wonder if Kroil in the doors would be any good lol.

I remember like it was yesterday when I was washing my beloved 2000 Dodge and my thumb when through the cab corner... the damn paint still looked like it came off the showroom floor. I will be damned if I let that happen to my new PW!
The only thing scaring me about the fluid film is the dang smell. But hey, if the smell goes away in a week or so after application and my truck will not rust then that is fine by me... I just dont want to have the odor lingering for months on end, especially inside the cab!

The smell: Simple, you either don't mind it or you freakin HATE it. Not much in between. Does not bother me at all, but I am a farm boy & live in farm country. Personally, I like it, cause when I smell it, I know my $50k truck is not rusting away, lol Yes it does go away.
The smell is lanolin. It is made from sheeps wool oil. Same stuff that is in your wifes make-up.

Somebody got some Fluid Film !
I was out today & saw an 07' dodge Ram & OMG, it was rusted to shit ! Holes right through the tailgate, fenders & lower body. He asked me if I bought my truck down south. I said nope, bought it right here & have driven it every winter. I told him Fluid Film is all you need to know to prevent rust.
