Airaid Intake?

Post by TrueBlue13PW » Wed May 18, 2016 1:43 pm

So you can get an Airaid cold air intake from Advance Auto for $346 + tax and free shipping. I wanted to check and see if anyone here is running one on they're 5.7 Hemi? Pros, Cons, Likes, Dislikes?

I have it and noticed not only a more aggressive engine sound but a bit better higher RPM power. I also noticed a bit lower intake air temperatures. In reality however I got the AirAid to make room for my Thuren shock towers. I'm happy with the setup mostly because it clears my shock towers.

Once I put on my exhaust system I can say for sure the AirAid system enhanced both the tuner and exhaust upgrades. All in all I'm really happy with the improvements.

The dry synthamax filter is awesome. Zero dust in the tube, unlike the oiled K&N that didn't filter the fine dust.

That's good to know I was leaning toward the dry filter but read that Airaid recommends the oil filter if in heavy dust conditions and the dirt roads I travel are extremely dusty. What was you reasoning for the dry filter?

Save you money and just get a AEM drop in for the stock box.

I have had a few different intake on my hemis, they all make noise and maybe a little bump in HP (up top, lose low end) and MPG.

I just went back the stock box and AEM from a volant with both the Powercore and the oiled filter. I am happier with the stock box for the day to day driving I do, less noise and maybe a little more low end.

If you really want to try an intake and have a 05-08' I am selling my Volant with both filter and extras if you was to try it.
08' Dodge RAM PowerWagon (Laramie, 6 Speed)
GO: Diablo tuned, AEM drop in, Magnaflow "Y" and 24" muffler (dumper over the axle)
Traction/Suspension:305-70-17 Toyo AT2's, DT Profab Steering Brace, Carli front diff guard.
See: Silver stars headlights, 9012 fogs, reprogrammed for fogs with high beams, (2)6" KC LED gravity in driving/spread behind the grill
Tunes:Pioneer AVH-X5800BHS w/stock infinity amp, Infinity ref. dash/reardoor speakers, kappa component front door, JL rear stealth box and JX500.1d.
Other: Dually marker light under the tailgate, 2013+ Red hemi badges, Bedtred bedliner and mopar rubber mat, Wheel well liners, rubber flaps, Bakflip MX4, W2W Mopar steps (bedlined black), weathertech front mats and rain deflectors.

M y experience with oiled filter has been bad. The sensors and throttle body get gummed up with the oil and dust.

I use the fine mesh prefilter over the filter to kerp the chunky stuff from getting into the pleats.

They are freakin' loud at WOT when towing...

I use the dry filter with the filter sock they offer. I am happy with the setup. I only want a hood that has a cold air duct to the filter. Too much money for me right now but it is really nagging on me. Might be my youth calling me back but I sure do want one!
