Couple more news questions

HI guys,

Was poking around under my truck just now, and saw a couple of things I don't really understand the purpose of:

1: These are mounted to the frame, immediately behind the lower lip of the front bumper. I suppose their purpose is to protect the smart-bar, etc from too much off-road damage or contact with rocks?

2: This thing sits right behind the rear end of the T-case. I have no idea what it is, other than I *think* it's fuel system related:

The tops pieces are to keep you from running over the Prius, the bottom is fuel system related.
2010 with 37" hooves, controlled by numerous Thuren parts and Thuren Custom King 2.5's (Moved to a new home)

Evaporative emissions system. The other things I have no idea. Perhaps they're there for securing them in transit or something?

On the top pic, that's where the plow mounts go on plow-equipped 2500s. As others have said, the going opinion on why they put them on our "not recommended for plowing" trucks is Prius owner protection.

Top is mandated --protects from the up & over, I was going to remove them until I realize a lot of aftermarket numbers use them as mounting points & until I make a definitive call on Line-X the stock or find a suitable aftermarket, they're staying.

Bottom--no idea

The bottom looks like an evap canister for emissions. Here is a 2004 diagram for comparison.

I have been contemplating removing the walrus teeth. Since I ripped off the lower valence they have become much more visibly noticeable. Do I really become that much more of a hazard to other vehicles?

The snow plow prep package adds $300 to the MSRP if I remember right. It is just a bigger alternator and a t case skid plate.

I saw someone mention that the snow plow prep package also included a higher capacity radiator for engine cooling. Supposedly, the PW has that as well

I admit I haven't kept up with my late model PW trivia, but when did they start offering snow plow prep on a PW? My manual specifically states you should NOT put a plow on a Power Wagon.

They don't. But this is either a case of "oh, those snow plow horns are a good safety feature, let's put them on the Power Wagons", or "those safety horns would be good snow plow mounting point on the other 2500s".

I know you don't have this stuff where you're from, but imagine if it rained inside your freezer. The rain drops would turn into these little white flakey things called snow.... ;)

Hey guys, I'm a little late to the party here but thought I would chime in. Those mounts under the front are called compatibility brackets, they are not for any type of plow. They are required by DOT or some other gov't entity. The exact reasoning I am not sure of, I've heard it could be due to the front height of the frame and/or truck and for safety in the event of an accident.

With that said, has anyone successfully mounted a new Western UltraMount II snow plow without losing the winch?

Bones -

I have only seen pictures of 2 newer power wagons with snow plows.
One was a Fisher on a 2011 PW and they were able to keep the winch & tow hooks but it was a custom mount. (See http://www.plowsite.com/showthread.php?t=152515)

"monteholic" on this forum does have a Boss plow, but said he had to remove the winch to install the undercarriage but his photo shows winch installed so maybe he was able to put the winch back in place. (There is a photo of his boss plow mount in the "Power Wagon Picture Thread", page 79 - March 2016)

Good luck & let us know if you are able to mount your plow - I would be interested also....
