6.4 oil

Post by waldo » Wed May 04, 2016 6:53 am

Where are you guys buying oil for the 6.4 and what are you paying? I let the dealer do my first oil change on a new vehicle promo they offered for $30, plus he even threw in an extra quart to keep in the bed. But that was a one time deal. I can't find that stuff locally outside of a dealership. Amazon has it, but only quarts and it's over $10 from what I see.

Before you say it, they used Penzoil Ultra in original bottles.

Yeah, no 0-40. None of the parts stores here carry it either.

If you insist on the Pennzoil it is going to be tougher to find and expensive. I have been using Mobil 1 0w-40 euro formula from WalMart and buying the 5 qt jug for around $25-26. The MS spec is just a scam to get you to buy Pennzoil. It is a good oil for sure but there are no magic elixers in it. The M1 has been working just fine, is cheaper and easy to source. Good Luck.

Looking at my paperwork from the dealer, it looks like the unit price for the oil there was $7.28 per quart. Guess I'll just buy it there if they'll actually sell it to me for that as a walk in at the parts counter.

Last oil change I did, the magic Penzoil with the unicorn juice in it was in ~$6/qt territory at AutoZone. It was on sale to reduce inventory because they were discontinuing it, and I didn't have the presence of mind to just buy it all.

Whatever the dealer uses here, my 5.7 no likey. Valve train noise on cold starts, Mobile One here from wally world by the gallon and it likes it, nice and quiet.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Truck came with 12 free oil changes from the dealer at time of purchase.... So, I'll be taking advantage of that for a while...

I just checked Mobil's website, and used their "find the right oil for my vehicle" tool. The oil finder tool said they don't have an offering, and even referenced the Chrysler spec. Where did you find a compliant Mobil oil?

That's how I discovered the oil they were using made my engine noisy, I was out of state once and changed it myself, let them keep the last few changes. I know what a happy engine is supposed to sound like, felt like I was being set up for failure right out of warranty. Haha

Good point, but at least I can prove they did it if something does go wrong... Plus I don't know who else I'd take it to... I don't like the jiffy lubes and unless the oil needs to be changed in July, late November or December, I don't have the time to do it...

Maybe on the 5.7 it does...the location of the oil filter on the 6.4 is absolutely miserable!
