If or when I have to replace my exhaust, I plan on spending the big bucks for a TTI complete long tube system.

Re: exhaust
I was thinking about running ARH Longtube headers. But they would mess with low-end torque and I'll need a tune for best results.
I purchased a Magnaflow 12589 muffler. On my 1500 I had installed the Mufflex 14inch muffler. And I liked the sound. This time I thought I'd try something a little similar but more custom.
Took it to a local exhaust shop in town, paid $200 even to have it installed and have the trash can resonator removed. Was very clear about wanting it to be out of the way for ground clearance.
What he came up with was fantastic. I'm very happy with the results.
You can check out an exhaust clip here. I waited a couple of days for the exhaust to break in before recording it.

I've been tossing around either bbk or jba headers, flowmaster high flow cats just curious what size pipe everyone is running after the headers I would like to do three inch from the collector back.

Re: exhaust
I also went with that Magnaflow mentioned above, and had it dump right after the muffler, so in front of the rear axle. No way anything will touch it when rock-crawling, well, I shouldn't say no way, maybe re-word to highly unlikely. I like the sound, and the improved throttle response was nice as well. Seemed like it was a perfect pressure amount in front of the muffler, because if you have it TOO free flowing, or TOO restricted, you can have negative effects I've learned. When I got the truck, the previous owner had already converted to a true dual off-brand exhaust, but I couldn't fit the two big Magnaflow mufflers under the bed so I went with the one big one, I'm pretty sure exact model mentioned above. So now, I'm true duals coming from engine, into single big muffler, and immediately dumped. No resonator, two catalytics. It's suiting my tastes, but I do indeed plan to upgrade headers at some point once I figure out the best bang for the buck.

Sounds deep & throaty, but WOW it's loud w/o that resonator on. I've got the mufflex & asked if they could send a straight pipe section to replace the resonator & they advised me not to remove it, so I kept it.MikeKey wrote:I was thinking about running ARH Longtube headers. Re: exhaust
Magnaflow has a cat back they sell for the 6.4 that is $900 flipping bucks. It's the same muffler, but it has a resonator, that they move to before the axle. If you could order that part, you could reduce cost and keep it quieter without the trash can. I just hated that thing hanging off the back like a hemroid.

Re: exhaust
Cut off the resonator this morning and dumped the exhaust just after the spare. I can't tell any difference in sound quality or sound intensity. Drove about 10miles to test it out, 3-4 on the highway w/ the cruise set at 50, 55, 60 to see if I could get any drone when the MDS kicked in, and I can't tell any difference. If I really get on the go pedal, w/ the window down, I did notice a little louder, maybe, maybe not, or I might be just deaf. But it does drop about 10+ lbs off the back end, that's always good.

Did you notice your brake-line on the rear driver-side? I see they haven't corrected that.I have a 2014 and mine was the same way. Just asking to be hooked on something and torn off. I attached a link to what I did to correct it.

So really no big difference with the resonator off? I have the same kit from mufflex... Thanks guys, just went out there and looked at the brake line. Going to take care of that before something else does! Much appreciated!
14PowerWaggy - why not just unbolt the resonator for awhile. See how it sounds. Don't trash it right away. What harm can come?

Re: exhaust
I drove it almost 50miles tonight. I guess its more noticeable accelerating from a stop & seems loudest in the 20-40Mph range, but sitting at cruise on the hwy, quite as a mouse. I shouldn't have waited so long to dump that weight off the back, I too thought it would be unbearable w/o, it's not.14PowerWaggy wrote:So really no big difference with the resonator off? Thinking about doing a cut out before the muffler on mine.... 3" y to dump. On my 5.7 I've heard straight pipes on dual exhaust 5.7's and it sounds great dunno how it would sound with the single and just cats lol this way quiet winter idling+ ability to go loud as shit= happy neighbors

As happy with my current exhaust as I am. It's not duals. And I miss the duals on the 5.7; just a different sound altogether.2wagons1driveway wrote:Thinking about doing a cut out before the muffler on mine.... 3" y to dump. Does anyone know if the cats can be deleted and reinstall the sensors in bungs and it work? Or will it trip out due to the sensors? I'd like to get new true duals all the way with twin magna flos but thought we'd have to reinstall the cats somehow.

^ see what I did there but seriously it will trip a check engine lamp even apperantly with a high flow cat set up like the American racing full header and cat system. Could always just have it re flashed tho !
