Power Wagons hold their value
I've had my 2014 Power Wagon for exactly 1 year now and I can't believe how well it is holding it's value. MSRP was $58,040 and I payed $47,613 plus tax from the dealer. Trade-in is currently listed at $44,675. It's only lost $3,000 in value in the first year...

I've been wanting to buy a used one for cheap and I agree!
Re: Power Wagons hold their value
The fact that Rams are sold for $10K off sticker every day of the week tells you that MSRP may be over valued?
According to NADA your Ram is worth $14K less on trade in than MSRP in a year over and lost 19% retail.
That's about normal for a 1 year old vehicle.

Yeah - the MSRP is meaningless - I agree!ACRucrazy wrote:The fact that Rams are sold for $10K off sticker every day of the week tells you that MSRP may be over valued?

The truck value last year was $47,613 - that's what I payed for it. The truck value now (it's in perfect condition) is at least what the dealer would give me for it - $44,675. My calculation tells me that the value only dropped by 6.17% which is way less than most vehicles lose in their first year.
And, if you sell a vehicle outright, you typically get more than if you trade it in...

You might only be losing 3-4K, but the truck itself has lost 19% already. It doesn't matter what you paid.

Re: Power Wagons hold their value
it all depends on the market and how much a buyer really wants the vehicle. i had a friend who offered to buy my pickup, but he has no idea just what a PW is and he doesn't need one anyway so i told him NO. it's kinda like buying art. only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. forget what the salesman says.

NADA says mine is worth $27,250 retail. Add the few things I've done to it. I'd sell it for $30K right now.

Re: Power Wagons hold their value
Either I'm missing something or NADA and KBB have VERY different prices for vehicles. NADA is 32-35 and KBB is 39-45. 10k is a heck of a difference.

Re: Power Wagons hold their value
KBB is a sellers tool. People always quote KBB when selling. KBB is waaaaay off of what a vehicle is really worth and what it will sell for.
Vehicles are worth what they are trading for at auction. (not ebay auction, car dealer auctions)
Dealers will give you a good price if you are buying a new vehicle that they will bang you over the head for.
Vehicles are bad investments by and large...........JMVHO

Hell I can't even get a value on mine its a 15 but I was told by dealers its worth 40k tops. Means I lost like 8k in 6mo...

you got it. hence why buying a vehicle 1-2 years old is a great deal cause you don't take the big hit the minute you leave the dealer asphalt.15wbpw wrote:Hell I can't even get a value on mine its a 15 but I was told by dealers its worth 40k tops. Means I lost like 8k in 6mo...

Re: Power Wagons hold their value
Yep, only time it shook out for me was when we bought a new Wrangler at the end of the year when they were trying to get rid of them for the new years ones to come in. After 10 months, my wife decided it wasn't good as a DD with a 2 year old and at 12 months I traded it in and got $1500 less than my purchase price. That was a heck of deal on my end, but I also have a good hook up with the sales manager and I told him what I wanted to do and he practically had it sold before I made the transaction.MSCH2112 wrote:you got it. hence why buying a vehicle 1-2 years old is a great deal cause you don't take the big hit the minute you leave the dealer asphalt.15wbpw wrote:Hell I can't even get a value on mine its a 15 but I was told by dealers its worth 40k tops. That is what I have been finding out with these Jeeps, too. The dang things hold their value like crazy. It is making it really hard for me not to trade it in for a PW. But I don't want to get rid of the damned thing! Will wrote:Yep, only time it shook out for me was when we bought a new Wrangler at the end of the year when they were trying to get rid of them for the new years ones to come in. KBB calls for a $30k trade in for my 2012 with nearly 50K miles on it. ("Fair" condition) Not bad considering I only paid $37k for it!!!
BUT...... I doubt I'd get more than $25K with all the ummmm........ "personality" my truck has! LOL!!!

The truck value is still there - I was expecting it to drop this year but it hasn't changed much.

Paid $47,613 for it new in 2014, the trade-in value was $45,400 in January, and now in December the trade-in value is $44,450. We've got a good thing here in these Power Wagons!!!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Power Wagons hold their value
According to NADA my retail is around $34,000 and my trade is around $30,000 for my 2012 with 33,000 miles on it. While I don't think that's unfair, the truck is worth way more to me, especially when you consider the fact that it's paid for, along with the mods I've done to it. At around 8,000 miles per year, my truck is going to be parked in my garage for a long time. At least that's the plan for now. I said the same thing about my 2004 HD Hemi, and then I bought a Power Wagon. Plans seem to change with me a lot in regards to vehicles.

Re: Power Wagons hold their value
I agree it is worth what the buyer is willing to pay for it. A friend had a 2014 Power Wagon, and when he went to trade it in on a Jeep Rubicon Hard Rock, the dealer gave him a pretty crappy trade in price for it. The dealers reasoning was that most people either don't know what a Power Wagon is, or they think every 4 wheel drive Ram truck is a "Power Wagon". He said my friends Tradesman Power Wagon was worth the same as any other Hemi powered Tradesman Ram truck. Then, two years later I buy my Power Wagon, and same friend decides to look for a used Power Wagon for himself. He did an online search, and told me that at that time there were only eight used Power Wagon's in the country. If they are that exclusive, one would think they would garner a premium price. So there are arguments both ways, bottom line, it is worth what the buyer will pay for it.

Re: Power Wagons hold their value
Got me sucked in... Rough trade in @ 17,950. Now I didnt pay close to that, about 3800 less. I think I got a good deal but it wasnt ground breaking considering the work ive put into it. Overall, by doing the work myself, ive saved a couple grand. Retail is nearly 24,000
If I start listing Mods I would have to change the list daily
